I don't do a lot of restaurants now a days but when I do, I love when they think I'm a shopper. They usually get their act together and do the job right.

You can try a bandana headband with a ponytail and use one of those temporary sprays or powders in the ponytail only... Then dress to match that hairstyle. Another day, use it on the entire head, for instance, and dress professionally. Many older women wear wigs and you will not stand out that way. Beauty supply stores can have cheap hair pieces. You don't have to give up a source of daily inspiration and esteem for a shop if you get creative as a response to the resistance.

These days we are all wearing face masks. IF there were any mystery shops no one would be recognized!

A 20-something with purple hair is NOT memorable. An older lady with purple hair IS memorable. Age should not make a difference but it does.

I am just reading this thread now on April 16th. Oh how times have changed in the past two months. Nowadays if you wore the bandana on your head, you might be memorable. But if you wore it covering your nose and mouth (COVID-19) then you would just blend in. Depending what state you live in, that retail store is probably closed due to coronavirus.
