Pv500 records upward

Hi there I just got done with an apartment Mystery Shop. It was a video shop and the problem that I had with the hidden camera which was on my shirt button was that it recorded upward towards the ceiling the entire time. No matter how you try and play around with it it just always ends up recording upwards. Has anyone else ever had this problem? And if so what is the best remedy for it?

Roll up some tape - duct or electrical- and put it under the top of your camera to adjust the angle downward.

You can create a small X with popsicle sticks and use a rubber band to affix the camera to the center of the X. The X will keep the camera perpendicular to (i.e. pointing straight out from) your chest. If you've got a very curvy chest, you can adjust the angles of the X, or even tuck parts of the X into your curve-retaining undergarment.
Even the best, and most experienced video shoppers have gone through this ritual at the outset. One colleague had a 45 minute recording that was mainly a clear view of her nostrils. She went on to become a legend, both for that AND because she really was the most skilled video shopper anyone had ever met. So, you are in good company.

Probably needs to be moved down a button.

BG may be correct, as it often happens that a combination of tilting the cam face and the level at which it is placed are often both involved. I know that I wear my button camera about one button hole below the norm. It takes a few minutes of practice at home to get it right. I have a "peep-hole" in my front door and use that as a guide as to where my picture will be framed with a combination of my distance and the level and angle of the button cam.

Maybe, but this is also a way to get some creepy under-the-table shots of you are not careful! Before choosing a different buttonhole, be sure to test it from sitting positions, making sure the camera is well-above normal desk height.

Once the camera is in place (using the top buttonhole of my shirt), I place one or two cotton balls between the bottom of the camera and the shirt. I tape the cotton balls to the underside of the shirt. It tilts the camera down so I do not get the ceiling and it is soft enough that I never feel it. I use a type of medical tape which tears easily and is easy to remove, but sticks to the cloth pretty good. It was something I had around the house.
When I have to sit at a desk or a table and am concerned about missing the target in the frame, I just state that I have been in my vehicle for so long that I really must stand, due to back issues. Then, I just lean in a bit to capture the seated target.

That has saved many a new home video!, a few bank videos and a ton of apartment videos. Stand up !!

This may be tmi but I am a large chested female. I bought a front closure bra. It has several little hooks. I thread the wire through the openings and then i stand facing a door to aim the camera just right. I can pull the camera down by simply pulling on the wire under my shirt and it stays put due to being threaded though the bra closures. I have even done it in a gas station bathroom when out of town. Since using this method i havent had any ceiling issues at all.
CQ, you are in good company and that is NOT TMI. That way of stabilizing the camera was actually first presented by a famous video MSer, both at the first IMSC conference and on the old V-forum. It may well be THE most reliable method ever devised, and some men had modified it to work with something other than a bra.

Deb was also MSPA's Shopper of the Year, 10+ years ago, the year that she introduced that system and did more video work than anyone had yet imagined possible in a year.

Sadly, Deb is no longer with us, but many of her video shopping innovations and lessons are very much alive and well. When starting a video, I often dedicate it to Deb.

In addition, anyone who loves opera and listens to the Met broadcasts has benefited from the legacy that she bequeathed to help keep it on the airwaves.

A sports bra pullover type with no front hooks or clasps will help stabilize the camera if you use a Popsicle stick and velcro. You will need to make 2 small slits in center of sports bra to insert the p-stick and center it. Line cam up with button on your shirt. Practice a few X

If the view is of the ceiling one of two things is happening. The cam is not secured correctly to the button, or the cam is in the wrong button hole. Adjusting the cam in the ways recommended makes the button look unnatural.

It depends on the shape of the shopper's body.... If the shopper has certain dimensions, the only button hole that will point the camera forward might be quite low (belly-button), for instance. This is going to be too low for any effective video where you want to catch the target's face. The angle of the camera will have to be adjusted....A small roll of tape can make a huge difference in camera angles without making the camera at all conspicuous.

Those people are few and far between. For most people it holds true that the buttonhole that naturally points directly forward or VERY slightly upward is the best spot.

A short person will get better video by chosing the highest buttonhole that points directly forward and then compensating by having a large personal space and distancing themselves from the target.

I'm not convinced that "those people" are that rare... Still, I think we can agree on this: camera placement has to be individualized to the shopper and each shopper must learn little tricks to get their camera to be angled just right. smiling smiley
