Are the Long John Silver shops easy?

Seeing them for the first time and they are reimb. only.

However, I LOVE LJS!!! The fried batter crumbs are one of my favorite things. smiling smiley

Are the shops worth it? Easier/harder/same as, say, a Five Guys report?

edited to add: Don't want to add (just to see guidelines) and possibly drop with this particular MSC. And it's not close to me.

No pay...reimbursement only, and all locations around here are in crappy areas. I'll pass.
Are you willing to pay your own money upfront, then wait close to at least six weeks for reimbursement? Are you willing to use a color printer to produce the required certificate? Are you willing to have to worry about taking pictures that could possibly be summarily rejected? You could go to this restaurant on your own dime whenever you want without subjecting yourself to unnecessary hassle. I will admit, however, that the fried batter crumbs are delicious!

I have not completed a LJS in 5 years. When I did, they paid $5 + a $10 reimbursement. Being both a veteran and a senior citizen, I was given 20% off, which effectively increased my total food to a max of $12. The report was easy and my money arrived, according to my log, in approx. 30 days. There were not any required pics nor color certificates. I would definitely NOT accept those jobs were there not a fee, with pics and a color printing and/or a reveal.

Folks, as long as you continue to work for next to nothing, next to nothing or less is what you will receive.
I just saw these shops this morning and was considering. But now I will say no, thanks to the guidance of all of you, mystery shop board friends. Certificate? Pictures? For no fee? PASS!

When we were kids, that'd be the first thing we reached for when opening our orders. It's like having an extra side of fries for free. I used to be so disappointed when they didn't give us a giant scoop of those leftover batter chips/ccrumbs.

Thanks for the feedback, btw.

The only silver lining is that the MSC is known for encouraging offers. We can always ask for a fee. If it's reveal, howver, I wouldn't be interested. Too awkward!
Could someone clarify if this is indeed a "reveal shop"? I was seriously considering signing up for one because there are a couple that are somewhat nearby me, but I'll probably pass if it is a reveal. I do go to LJS once in a while on my own, so doing a reveal shop would feel awkward for me.

I wish the MSC would post the guidelines/shop details before we accept the shop!

Thanks for any insight!
Bob--please explain how you know about a reveal and certificate if you haven't done any. Thank you.

I see my queey should have been directed to Opanel.

@sstsau ... On the screening questions page, the MSC mentioned the certificate. At that point, I decided that it wasn't worth it, so I simply backed out of the page.
@Opanel: Thanks! I didn't click the accept button, so I didn't know there were screening questions. I guess I'll pass unless/until they actually include a fee. Too bad...it seems like the fees for this MSC are getting lower and lower, if they are even there at all anymore!
The "details" also mention needing a color printer to do the golden tickets. This is definitely a reveal shop where if the order taker must meet certain requirements. I have not taken on but based on their previous reveal shop, after you go over your report you will then meet with the manager and tell them they either passed or failed. If they passed then each of the workers get a golden ticket, if they fail they get an "Oops" ticket. I haven't taken one but would bet that eventually they will have to offer a fee plus reimbursement. I'd take one as I liked doing the chicken reveal/golden ticket shops simply because I loved the biscuits.
I mean just the fact you have to eat at Long John Silvers makes it a rough shop.....

I ate at one once when I first moved to Ohio. It was awful. The fish was bland and the oil-soaked breading was thicker than the fish. Now granted, I lived in Florida on the Gulf of Mexico for the majority of my life and grew up eating fesh seafood, so maybe I am a little spoiled. They would have to pay me a lot to try it sgain, no way would I do it for reimbursement only.
Captain D's is the Taco Bell of seafood and even it's significantly better than LJS.

Bob's reply- I read Opinel's post.
Y'all are crazy. smiling smiley LJS is AWESOME!

Flavorful batter! Keep in mind JASF is a food snob, LOL.

I'd eat at LJS every single day over McDonald's, Wendy's, Sonic, etc.
Captain D's fish batter is flavorless. ...and less crisp to it

Yeah, I think those places are gross, too. But I don't eat fast food. I have eaten a Wendy's chicken sandwich before and it wasn't horrible, but Chik-fil-a is way better.
My sister worked at LJS back in the 80s as a teenager. Before she started working there, she had perfect complexion, smooth, no acne. After a couple weeks working with all that grease her face broke out in severe acne. She didn't even eat the food, it was just from hovering over the grease fryers. I'll never eat there, and especially not if there's no reimbursement. Hard pass.
The LJS shops are not exactly jumping off the board. Sooner or later they will have to offer some compensation. I didn't do the chicken reveal shop for less than $15 comp. so the LjS shops are going to have to offer something worthwhile. I wish Slapfish would be shopped!
I answered no to the reveal question during the screening. Made all the LJS shops all disappear which was the desired outcome!
I decided to TOFTT to see what the requirements are. This is a reveal shop only if the shop is successful. If the shop is not successful, it is not a reveal shop. Even if a drive-thru shop is not successful, you must still enter the restaurant to check the restroom and overall cleanliness.

I'm not planning to take another one on a reimbursement-only basis.
I noticed that the same MSC is doing Arby shops for no compensation, too. I would take LJS long before Arby's. These shops with no comp are not jumping off the board.
