PI license for MS in FL?

Hi. I'm new to mystery shopping and want to know if you need a PI license to do this work. Because I'm new, I primarily look for beginner shops, like overt interviews, covert retail stores (evaluate associates' customer service), gas stations (covert and overt). Anything involving recording, I avoid.

Also, would employee integrity shops require a PI license? I've been looking at the statutes and calling various state agencies, but don't a clear answer as yet. Some topics on the site have helped, but few speak to FL specifically, so I wanted to ask.

Thanks for any help.

* Edited to remove "MS" and spell out "mystery shopping" to not confuse acronym with state of Mississippi. :-)

You have picked an unfortunate time to enter the industry...but no license required anywhere for the work. You simply need to be employed by a PI firm in some states. Neither MS or FL are included in that group of states.

*Sigh!* I know. Thanks for the feedback, SteveSoCal. I've read on other posts that Nevada requires a PI license to be a mystery shopper, so that's what made me look into this. Do some of the more in-depth shops need a PI license in FL, such as apartment video shops or bar shops? Is there a resource I can review for this info, while I continue calling state agencies to get this insight?

Appreciate the help!

Please understand the shopper does not need a PI license. You simply need a work card in NV to work for a PI firm. There are not many resources outside of this forum to review since I am not aware of any laws in FL that require you to be connected with a PI for any assignments at all. Some shops in CA require that the MSC have a PI license but they are free employ shoppers at will.

I would also suggest that your state agencies might have bigger concerns at the moment, so you might not get the best response contacting them in the middle of a worldwide pandemic.

Since we are all most likely to be homebound for the foreseeable future, you can luckily spend that time reading this forum and learning about MSIng, so that it jobs do return, you will ready to take them on....
If you do any work that involves getting somebody fired (integrity) in FL, you will need to work with a firm that has a PI license.

I’ve had to get my reports, raw notes and testimony notarized for a shop that I did in Miami Beach.

That disqualifies >95% of shoppers, so you are probably fine.

Helen, you do NOT need a PI license to do shops in NV. You need a work card from the Nevada PILB and you need to be working for a registered PI firm only....
