Scam variation

Although no experienced shopper would fall for this one, it has just enough legitimate sounding info to fool a person who is not familiar with the ways of ms scammers. The fake bank verification website is a disturbing new twist.

They never stop!

When I got my fake check, I called the bank to verify it. They quickly let me know it was a fake.

So now, Corona Virus? Wow...just wow.

Unfortunately, as per this quote attributed to P. T. Barnum, "there's a sucker born every minute." The only reason that these scams persist is that people continue to fall for them.
So glad you brought this to the attention of any shopper who may be tempted in this or any similar fashion!
Here's the important excerpt for any new person who comes into the forum and is reluctant to click on the link:

"Woods said she was excited upon receiving the check, but was concerned that it might be a scam, so she contacted BBB, who told her it was. Fortunately, she didn’t fall for it. In reality, the check would have eventually bounced and Woods would be responsible for paying the bank back any funds she had withdrawn."
Yeah, I read that. I didn't think tying it to the virus "upped the ante", as they said. I thought the fake check verification site ( third paragraph) upped the ante. I haven't heard of that angle before.
