Fast Food always problems with orders

I was talking to my brother and he mentioned that the past couple of weeks that no matter what FF place he gets his lunch at that the order is wrong. He said one time he questioned the cost after being told one $ amount and getting to window and a different $ amount, was told he heard wrong, got back to his work and found that they had doubled the order.
He said most times it is they haven't put something in the bag. He said they have for gotten his fries, sandwich, etc.. he says now before pulling away from the window he checks the bag to make sure everything is there. Here the drive thru are still the only thing open.
I told him they must know that they are not being "shopped" at the moment, and that is why they are not careful about the order. And also they are felling "rushed" with all the people at the drive thru.

I agree with your brother. Almost invariably, drive-thru orders are incorrect. Once the customer leaves the Pick-Up Window, the restaurant couldn't care less. I don't care how "rushed" they may feel; I always inspect my order for accuracy before leaving the window. Not only that, but with the drive-thru penchant for pawning off lukewarm or cold food, I also perform a cursory temperature check when I can. Once you leave the window, are you really going to go through the hassle all over again just to correct it?
So how do they pay at the drive-thru? Surely they don't hand their CC through the window.
Yes, at the drivethru you hand your cc to the employee and they swipe it and give you your receipt with your card.
Since the covid-19 a lot of drivethrus are holding the card machine out the window and you insert your card and when it beeps you pull it back out.
One of the reasons I pay with cash -- I never NEVER let any employee at any business take my credit card someplace out of my sight! A lesson learned the hard way, several years ago!

It doesn't totally prevent mis-use of your card, but it does cut down the opportunity.

People under 50 rarely pay with cash.
This really is true. I managed a Target front end (register area) and cash came from older people and recent immigrants. 20 somethings would literally charge or use debit for a pack of gum all day long.
The only time I use cash is for integrity shops. Parking meters do t even take cash and coins anymore.
Businesses tried to get rid of cash, but they would not allow it because it discriminates against homeless people and others who don’t have cards.
I’m not touching cash during this pandemic anyway. Hard pass.
As someone who has been doing plenty of Jack shops, one of the requirements is that you need to make a special order — I usually ask for extra mayo, no ketchup. I’d say 3 out of 10 times I get a burger that is completely dry with no sauce, or has tons of ketchup and no mayo. They also don’t seem to get the difference between “hamburger” and “cheeseburger”.

I can see why they do these special order shops —if I actually had to pay the INSANE prices they want around here for fast food, I’d actually be ticked... it isn’t the case of a $5 combo anymore that has a request that’s slightly off — around here most fast food combos are in the $10-13 range. Much harder for me to say “eh guess they screwed up... better luck next time I guess”.

Just a tad off-subject here, but I, too, won't let my CC go out of my sight. Had dinner with a friend at a restaurant a few months ago, just prior to the CV, and the server wanted me to put my CC or DC in the bill folio and he walk away with it to the register area. I just flat out said I was not comfortable with that, and then he had me walk with him to the register area and conduct the transaction from there, in my plain sight. I was OK with that. That was one of the rare times I used a card instead of cash, as I did not have the cash on me. Otherwise I would have paid by cash, as my friend did, with whom I ate lunch.
Soooo, we ordered Chipotle last night through Uber Eats. Disgusting! Over salted, dry and the bowls were not scooped and built to order per se. I guess they were running out of food as our bowl contents were mixed in with the brown rice and then hidden with lots of cheese. Minimal sofritas, salsa, beans and one of them was missing the fajita veggies. The cilantro and tortillas were fresh though. I think we are just going to order from local, family owned pizzerias from now on.

I'd rather get 5% back on restaurant purchases on my credit card. The odds of misuse are very slim. Plus I don't have to deal with carrying a lot of cash or change.

Back in about 1982 I stopped a gas station and the only thing I had on me was a CC, You had to go inside the office to pay, and the clerk made me leave the card while I got gas. Dumb, me not thinking did that. Got my gas went back in got my card and signed the receipt, took my copy and the carbon paper. A few days later I got a call from the card company about $500 of gas charged on it from the same station over a period of 2 days. They cancelled the card and the charges and then a couple days later I got a call from the police, they had arrested the clerk at the gas station. She had made numerous blank charge slips of my card, and also of 6 other peoples cards. She was sentenced to several years in prison.
After that I never let my card out of my site, when I have to use it.
I wouldn't worry about a credit card at a fast food restaurant. They swipe it and get it right back to you. Where a lot of fraud used to happen was a gas stations where you pay outside-- criminals would put what are called skimmers in and no one would be the wiser. it would steal all your cc information, which they would duplicate into a card which they would use until it was cancelled. Same with people at restaurants. However, the chip card removes the risk of skimming. As long as you have a chip card, and the business takes chips, you should be fine. I use my chip card everywhere all the time and I've never had a problem. I did have non chip card skimmed in 2011 and someone spent about 400 at grocery stores-- 100 a day until I caught on and cancelled the card.

My husband is more careful than me, and he has text alerts for all his credit cards. So anytime a charge is made, he gets a text. He loves this.

I got hit by a skimmer at a gas station once to. Didn't catch it for a month. Surprisingly my credit card company didn't notice I was charging all kinds of weird things at overlapping times. I had to go back and clean up a lot of bad charges. I do fee la bit sorry for the restaurant that took the bad number. I'm guessing they got screwed.

FWIW there are skimmers that can get the chips now, though it's harder. They found one at a grocery store around here a few months a go.
Personally I use a CC every chance I get. I don't like getting change with cash. Plus, I earn a ton of bonus points on my CC that you can't get with cash. And it's easier to budget because I can look at my transactions online.
I have an app that allows me to set it so that my debit card will be declined if it is not near my phone. I would say that fast food orders have problems getting the order correct about 30% of the time.
You can make extra money that way. With the cashback from Credit Cards, it is almost like having an extra month in the year for shopping income. If you want to look at it like that. Just make sure that they get paid off every month otherwise the interest will eat your lunch.

On a separate point I got hit with a couple of fraud charges a month ago. I was supposed to have been in a BestBuy in Minneapolis Minnesota. But what really ticks me off no fraud alert or anything I just happened to catch it.
