Heads up - no cash accepted

I doubt this will last long. There are laws on the books that require retail businesses to accept payment in US currency. And there have been lawsuits won when businesses have tried to enact this type of restriction in the past since non-cash payments are out or reach for some homeless and poor.

Just a heads up. I’ve seen more than a dozen restaurants and stores post that they are not currently accepting cash (because it’s dirty and contaminated).
So, bring your cards and wipes.

A side effect, the Fed Chair reports a coin shortage due to decreased circulation since Covid.
Did dirty cash hurt us much before covid? Nah. It just grossed some people out and made them squeamish. That is just their personal issue!

Wear your gloves when you use cash. This is not difficult. All will be well.....
Meanwhile, I still have plenty of coins for car washes and occasional trips to laundromat. This is a good thing.

Paper money has been a problem every time there has been an epidemic. Over the years, money has been blamed for spreading everything from smallpox to cholera. In 1908, a study tied cases of syphilis and scarlet fever in New York to tainted money. The Federal Reserve took action with a governmental war on germs. That has been perfected over the years, and paper money is probably the cleanest it has ever been, but it's still pretty dirty. Recent studies show over 90 percent of United States paper money contains bacterial colonization, mostly from Staph, Salmonella and E. coli. Here's an interesting article about the history of disease, contamination, and cash: [www.washingtonpost.com]

The problem with cash is not just touching it when you pay for something or get change. Yes, you can wear gloves when you touch it. But if you put it in your wallet or pocket, you contaminate anything else in there.
Now this is interesting! Explain?

Thanks SCM! I wonder why there is no affect on the flow of paper money. That's where the coins come from.

I think it’s nonsense. Fake news.
If nobody’s using cash or coins, why do they need coins? The banks need to cut their order down by 80%; they don’t need a stock pile of coins. Heck a lot of laundromats accept debit cards anyway.
There was a homeless person outside of Walmart begging. The person she was speaking to said he didn't have any cash. The homeless person said she accepted Cash App.

Go figure!

Small town America here. We do not have all the updated services. Laundromats here still use coins. Most car washes here use coins. One car wash uses cards. It matters to me that I have coins for these services where I live. Otherwise, I would have to travel an hour or more (one way!) to accomplish these little tasks. We live in different worlds...

Our clothes dryer broke down about a month ago, and while waiting to get it repaired, I had to go to a laundromat to dry our clothes. We live in a rural area, right outside a medium sized metropolitan area. The laundromat only accepted coins here as well. Glad I had my stash of quarters!
I read that all the coins are being not circulated and are stashed a small number at a time in cash registers all around the country. And to put some truth into the statement, even I , who likes to never give up a penny, do not ask for my coin change if it is a relatively small amt. I purchased something the other day with single bills and they did not even offer my change, nor did I ask..
My reaction to this whole coinless society thing that has been going on since before covid 19 is that it seems so strange to see this effort co existing with efforts to have the lower income people and people of color have equal opportunities. Well if we are coinless, there will be even more low income people dis enfranchised from simply going into a store to buy something with a small amt of pocket change and no credit card. Except of course that homeless person that HonnyBrown came across outside of Walmart.
That homeless person had a cell phone and a bank account. What does that say?

Cash is not required any more?

The good news is that those of us in metropolitan areas are happy to go cashless, so there should be plenty of coins remaining for those who still want to use them.
Coins end up in my dryer. I don't know how because I don't use cash.

Your dryer must be reimbursing you for the single socks it eats.

Just looked at SQR(?) shops. Cash is required. If the location does not accept cash, you may use your card and you must photograph the posted signs which state that the location does not accept cash.
