A gazillion blue bank shops and I think I've been lied to

I've been doing blue bank shops forever. Back before the 30-mile thingy, I might do routes totalling 100 shops in a given month.

One thing I always make a point of going into is online banking and alerts. Alerts are very important to me for reasons too lengthy to get into here.

Several months ago I got fed up with my small town bank and decided to open an account with the blue bank. I set up online banking with alerts immediately.

I'm here to tell you every last one of those bankers lied to me! In comparison to other major banks, blue bank has an inferior app and online banking site. But what is really bad is the alerts. They are so willy nilly and inaccurate more often than accurate. Their idea of "Real time" and mine are two different things. I can see why overdraft protection is such a big deal with blue bank.

If I do blue bank shops in the future, I will be approaching them with a whole new attitude.

I opened such an account to earn the large bonus. Took me six months after the bonus was due, and 4 phone calls (average wait time 1 hour each) to pry that bonus loose. Their notifications are also crazy delayed.

With my Chase accounts, I am notified within minutes of any deposit over my specified (low) amount and get timely reminders that outgoing payments are coming up. Same is the case with my BoA accounts.

since I don't see the MSC mentioned:" I always thought Chase was the Blue Bank. If that is not right what is the Blue Bank?
I have always thought that Citi was the blue bank. Hmmm.

And i do not do them but thought B of A was the blue bank! I think a lot of banks have logo's that are patriotic and include red, white and/or blue in them. I got a bonus for account opening from bof a a year or so ago and got it in a timely manner.
I thought it was Chase also. It’ll be interesting to find out if after all these years of talking about the blue bank, we were talking about different banks!
Well, I know that Chase has a really great wbe and phone app and sebds messages in a timely fashion, so I had to go with Citi. BoA also sends notifications immediately and has a great online app. That, I thought, left Citi as the only really major bank with a lot of blue.

BofA is blue and red. And I've never had a problem getting a bonus from Chase or BofA.
Blue bank has a huge history of issues.... alerts are inferior for sure.... inaccurate....
Based on her clue about the 30 mile limit, I am convinced it's Chase whiterosie was referring to. I have no issues with their alerts on my own accounts though.

Yes. I was referring to Chase.

Maybe it's what one is used to but my AMEX, BofA, WF, and PayPal are instantaneous and accurate. Sometimes Chase is instantaneous and sometimes there is up to a 24-hour delay. But the big one is the balance alerts, which are 24-48 hours behind reality.

I live in a tiny, backwoods town with one bank. That bank is no longer open on Saturdays, no longer has an ATM, and online banking consists of being able to check one's balance that is always two business days old.

So, the Chase shops are super easy for me because who wouldn't want to change banks? I explain that although I want to change, because most of my banking transactions will take place online, I need a bank with an awesome online presence.

Honestly, after all the hype from bankers for seven or eight years, I was surprised at just how bad the app is compared to other major banks. I will, however, stick with the scenario and sit through their lies for future shops.
I always had the blue bank as chase too. I had BOA as the red bank. I know Chase used to have a 30 mile limit on their shops. I however did 4 chase shops as of 2/21 that were anywhere from 60 miles to 95 miles away from me. The rule as far as I know must no longer apply. I had a Chase account briefly back in 2015 no problems with online back then not sure about now.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
Just a brief opinion about chase. They seem to be the bank for the rich or well off and care less about the middle to lower class. Their monthly maintenance fee is high compared to other banks and the requirements to have it waived are difficult for the low income. I have also noticed less bankers available and longer wait times to having to make an appointment over the last several years.

I feel like this about most of the big banks, Chase, BOA, Wells Fargo...
It's too bad the small town bank in your town is frustrating, my experience with the small town ones and the credit unions have been great.
My main bank is Chase. Their app is often frustrating for me due to its, IMO, inferior remote check deposit function. I have not had an issue with slow notifications. Their customer service is often disappointing, in my experience.

I set up my Chase bank accounts in such a way that I can maintain very low balances but pay no monthly fees. I also get a free safe deposit box.

I am also a Wells Fargo customer.IMO, their app is superior to Chase's. It takes slightly more effort (10 ATM card purchase or payment transactions vs. 5 ATM purchase transactions) to waive the monthly fees.

I am also a Bank of America customer. I rarely use their app because I usually just park several hundred dollars in an account there without any money going in or out of the account (other than the tiny amount of interest I earn every month). I just go online on my computer to check the account once in a while.

Of the major banks, Citibank has been the worst for me in terms of customer service and its app. Unless I open an Access account (no paper checks), it is more difficult (compared to Chase and Wells Fargo) to get monthly fees waived.

I don't even bother to use the apps for US Bank or Bank of the West. Ugh. And US Bank's customer service? Double ugh.

In my experience, it is much easier to get free accounts at credit unions, though I do not really use their apps.

(Yes, I have a lot of bank accounts.)
I do not use the bank apps because, well, why do I need individual apps cluttering the phone when I can use a web browser to accesss all of them, right? Unfortunately, all companies seem to be forcing us away from browser use by making their websites more difficult to use. Chase's site takes forever to load. Then, since they redesigned it, it's nearly impossible to find whatever it is you're looking for. It is way too busy. And not easy for the eye to take in. And the bill pay? Forget about it. It only shows you a partial list and you have to take extra steps if you want to pay more than one bill at a time. I hate it. I used to love it a couple of years ago!
Yep. Chase's website is a big mess. Chase is the only bank for which I use their app more than their website.
You want to put it in CAPS and shout it from the rooftops Busy Bee.....
I dont think we quite get the HINT. Good grief.

FYI for anyone looking for a bank with no fees, Chase will give the Premier Account to veterans. There are no fees and a lot of perks. My hubby is a veteran so we got that one and it's great. You can have multiple checking accounts and a savings a/c or two with no fees.

I wasn't hinting at anything. My post was not about identifying the blue bank. I was responding to the post above mine. sestrahelena was talking about issues with Chase's website that forced her away from using the website. I was agreeing with her.

This is just more of you not seeming to understand what others have posted in this thread. Multiple people pointed out that more than one bank had blue in their color scheme, and yet you saw fit to be dismissive of 1forum1's question. Good grief.

Reading comprehension is a useful skill.

Yes. Some banks and apps were being compared so I was just telling of my experience with the bank I use personally, which is Chase.
I don't personally use Chase. I have had multiple Checking accounts spread over many different banks mostly because of mystery shopping. I am currently at 2 checking accounts at two different banks. I may add a 3rd at yet a different bank as I sometimes have the need for a local bank to deposit cash and checks. My phone is a smartphone dinosaur and I can't remote deposit due to bad camera. I have one savings account at one of the banks I have a checking account.

I highly recommend Capital One. I have it and use it as a online only account. I have a debit card for purchases. There are no branches in my area but with cash back and free allpoint ATMS it does not cost me to get cash if needed. Capital one does not charge any foreign ATM fees. They have interest earned on both checking and savings but it is ridiculous like all banks but still slightly higher. Currently .10 % and .50 % for checking and savings respectively. Capital One online website with computer use is IMHO well laid out and easy to use. You also used to be able to remote deposit via computer and website but they got rid off the feature unfortunately.

I suggest a Credit union or local bank to anyone. If you live in Texas or Arizona 1st National bank of Texas or 1st Convenience bank is a good bank it is the same bank. Easy to avoid monthly maintenance fee with either $100 average daily balance or 8 debit card purchase or $100 or more (must be one transaction of $100 or more) direct deposit. Paypal does not count for the Direct Deposit.

If you want to save I suggest good dividend paying stocks with a buy and hold strategy. Coke (KO) is one I own and has historically been great.

Yes, credit unions are a great idea. May I also suggest Ally Bank? Their online savings account has a current APY of 1.10%. There are no monthly maintenance fees.
I thought Blue bank might be Arvest (Walmart) then I remembered that it is only in Arkansas and Oklahoma that I know of.
