Maison Kayser may close all NYC locations

One of my faves--I even shopped without pay! Now they are trying to shut down. Apparently tourists and office workers were its main customer targets, and the lockdown along with continuing social distancing has taken them away:

I only got to shop them once (while on vacation in NY) and it was a treat! While Broadway is hardly NY’s only attraction, its closure through the end of the year at the least means NYC tourism will take a long time to rebound.
Also who wants to be on a plane right now. Huge layoffs there come October... I don't see airline shops again for a long time - if ever.
This could become a trend for European eateries that expanded into the US market.
I did some MK assignments as well. Their pastries are delicious. I always wondered about places like this. The cost of doing business is so high in NYC even if the place is crowded. How much can they really make out of selling $3 to $5 croissants and coffees? The rent is crazy high. The cost of labor is high. Then De Blasio set up all kinds of traps for the businesses to cough up more dough.
I think they modeled their pricing on Pret, which also had inexpensive croissants and half sandwiches. MK pastries were delicious, but also beautiful--and the crew knew the ingredients.
