covid fever: stir crazy. enforced isolation followed by removal of expected conditions leads to irritation, frustration, and plain ol' "piss on it" attitude.

If you look at the homeless populations (https://psydprograms.org/the-places-with-the-most-and-least-homelessness-in-america/), the top five are DC, NY, Hawaii, CA, OR. All places with huge drug problems and a high cost of living. I say take the billions that are being poured into programs and set up housing in one of those places that is LESS desirable. Why should a homeless drug addict be able to live on beachfront public property that a working person has no chance to afford?
A counter-argument is that they're not living a luxurious life by any means. Living in a tent - even along a beach - is not particularly nice I'd bet. A lack of one's own private restroom and being constantly insecure about one's safety and other random stuff from living that way isn't living it up.

I do understand the sentiment, though. I lived and worked in Irvine and my rent was $800/month (over a decade ago, so rates are much higher now probably) for a spare opposite-level condo bedroom with a newlywed couple. Newport Beach was next to me. I worked briefly there as well. I can see no way homeless Californians would be allowed to camp out at Newport Beach. There are too many wealthy residents and businesses and THAT would be an amazing view of the ocean. I used to drive to my job there and see one of the most gorgeous views you'd ever want with the ocean/beach on the horizon off the main road.

Yes, non-homeless cannot live at the beach if costs are too high, but they can visit the beach.

Not saying I agree or disagree...just that living in a tent on the beach still has its challenges and negatives.

It's huge issue at Newport Beach as well.

If that's the case, CA has really changed since I lived there.

From the videos I've seen online, there are streets in some cities with block after block after block...of tents lined up next to each other. With luxury and high-end businesses in Newport, I'm definitely shocked policing hasn't been more aggressive.

That being said, if I had to be homeless, I'd probably want to be there as well. grinning smiley
Did you see the apparently real news where some guy pooped on Nancy Pelosi's driveway in San Francisco?

Well, he videoed himself doing it and posted it on the Internet. So I'm pretty sure you can drop the "alleged" part of that.

Yes, he was. Unfortunately it was on his tiny penis so it kept falling off! ;-)

The meat exceeded expectations in the way it was presented. Although in terms of volume there was less than expected.

Nope. Private Investigator. I have been on jobs with him and it was one of my many questions that came up.
Decades ago, Geraldo Rivera did an "expose" on the facilities for mentally ill people and everyone got all riled up and they closed all the mental health places because of abuses. So, they closed all the facilities, the people who are incapable of caring for themselves were set loose and no one picked up the slack and that is the source of most of the issues regarding mentally ill homeless people. The homeless folks due to poverty are a different group, but obviously there is a crossover as one can lead to the other. The facilities that do remain are inadequate There needs to be a better way. They are human beings that deserve care and a safe home regardless. The guy peeing in the middle of the store needs a swift kick, but that's just my takeaway. There needs to be a better safety net for vulnerable people.
So I finally watched the movie 'Philomena'. For this thread, the relevant part of this great film is when she sneers, "He needs a good swipe of shite!" "He" was a snotty nosed big shot who thought his shite didn't stink. For history and humanity, everything else is pertinent. Meanwhile....

I was in the car waiting for hubby to emerge from a store when out of the corner of my eye I spied a little motion in the dusk. I turned my head and gawped as a gal nonchalantly dropped her knickers and peed on the ground. To her credit, she placed the tissue she used in a plastic bag that was held open by her companion. I guess they are well trained in that city to clean up after their pets and themselves.
