Is it worth it?

I need advice. I got a price check audit. Check 313 items for $60 + $14 bonus. What’s the typical rate for this work? They say it takes 1 hour per 100 items but it’s a grocery store so I doubt it.

Personally, I would be so overwhelmed by a LIST of 313 items with just finding the items on the LIST that it would take me all day. Maybe if I had a list of 100 in the canned veggie aisle I could accomplish it in an hour, but then I still would need to do the report and answer follow up questions because I did not find the Green Grinch refried petunias in my store. On paper about 23 cents per item sounds good, it just depends on the rest--are you supposed to do this without getting caught? is this a company that is a good working partner or a pick-it-to-death to try to disqualify the job? is their list logically assembled to match up to store departments or are items listed, for example, alphabetically to have you running all over the store?

If you know where everything is 100 an hour is easy.

Until then? Expect at least 1-2 minutes per. If you have a bad memory? Even longer.
My gf was able to do those after she learned where things were but that takes a few weeks. Very profitable after that as you can do two a minute easy once you know where it all is.

It really depends on which department you are checking. Canned goods are straightforward, obviously, but the last one I did included fresh fish at the counter and 1) it was hard to be discreet and 2) the list included items that they may not carry. Previously frozen, wild caught etc. you get the picture how hard that could be.

That said, the 313 items likely include at least 3-5 departments, though. And not all 313 items will be carried in the store. I don't mind doing them but they can be pesky. Pre-COVID I could take a break between departments where they have dine-in seating.
Thanks for all the advice! It’s a chain grocery store and all the items are fresh (veggies, fruit, meat, etc) so it’s pretty hard to do. I tried for about 30mins but couldn’t find many exact matches and it is very tricky to discretely stare at meats for that long...so it will likely take me all day. sad smiley

II know they say to be discrete, but we've had better success just saying we are collecting price info for items so people can use them to know where the good deals are. Never got kickback but your mileage may vary.
