Do the recorded calls we do through the MSC show our number on caller ID?

Or do they show some weird number from a different area? I had a an apartment shop where the guy asked me "where is your area code from?"

It depends on the platform and the settings used by each MSC. SASSIE provides the option for an MSC to have all numbers dialed through VocaZilla (their recording platform) to appear as blocked numbers. However, it is a new option as of a few months ago, and I'm not sure how many SASSIE using MSCs use it. There are apps that you can use to get spoofed numbers (Burner, Google Voice, Hushed, etc.). Alternatively, you can always say where your area code is from and explain you kept your cell phone number when you moved a few years ago (as long as this fits with the shop instructions and scenario).

The problem is if your call is routed through another system and not blocked, you might not know the area code. It's still easy to shrug off, but with a less direct, "Oh, yeah, I kept my cell number from years ago."

I have had the same cell # since 2002 or so. If I had moved around more, it would be easy to forget its origin.
I have done several SASSIE phone shops using * 67. However, an few months ago I did an SASSIE phone shop using * 67.. When I gave the agent an number in the same area code (Like the guidelines said), the number on their end was showing my cell phone number.

I asked my cell phone carrier about using * 67 on 800 and 888 numbers and they said that you can not block those numbers.. I called my wife's cell phone by blocking my number and it worked.. I told her I was doing that.

Before I do the shop, I read the guidelines and I find an number in the same area code as the guidelines..
Thanks for letting us know that *67 won't block 800 and 888 numbers when using a cell phone. I had no idea!
I use my google number to call from my cellphone and set it to anonymous. I only use *67 when calling from a landline. However, some builders and bank/financial places will not accept blocked calls.

@OP: It might depend upon the client and/or the phone system. For example, I work at a [mostly] outbound call center for research. I know that we are mystery shopped. We do not have caller ID on our computers. If someone calls in to test how we answer the phone and answer their questions, we must ask for their phone number in order to find them in the system before we can make any sort of response to them.
