WU money transfer shops, are they legit?

Those that know the MSC, they seem fairly big/legitimate. I've applied/been assigned twice to the same shop this week at $50, only to be told the day before that it was canceled. Fine, I understand things happen. But now it's still posted at $50 and the MSC is emailing me, asking if I'd make the run at a fee of about 50% of what is posted.

I've never had/seen this happen. Is this something that usually occurs out in our industry or this particular MSC? I feel like that's a false job posting and then trying to bargain down the fee.

The ones I have done are very much legitimate. You only wire about $20 and they guarantee the refund. I saw some posted today that were at the $50 fee plus reimbursement but not anywhere close to me. The key is making sure you leave yourself plenty of time because the customer service counter at that particular merchant can take a while and you have to initiate the refund within 30 minutes or else you have to wait for reimbursement from the MSC.

The MSC handling these is 100% legit. I can't speak to the weirdness you are experiencing with assignments, I've never had that happen with this MSC.

The shop can be sketchy, I did 4 at major supermarket chains who offer WU services with no issue. Yesterday, I did one at a local neighborhood shop and all hell has broken loose because the store didn't follow proper procedure in terms of the receipts and the editor is challenging my photos. The receipts are supposed to be so big/long that you need 8 photos to capture front and back, in this case the neighborhood store gave me a much smaller receipt that didn't include a code number on the back that they want. Editor has expressed a concern as to why the receipt was so small. I messaged her back that I can't answer that, this is what they gave me, maybe WU should take it up with this neighborhood store. (to her credit, she messaged me back that she realized the whole thing was "a pain" for me).

They are pretty sweet shops if done with a major market chain, otherwise hard pass. If your assigned location is "Fred's Neighborhood Grocery," dont do it. Stop & Shop or Food Lion or what have you, go ahead.

I just did one at "Deb's Neighborhood Convenience Store". It was in a borderline neighborhood, though I never felt uncomfortable. Check where the store is located. Those $50 shops might be in a "war zone" type neighborhood.

They had a separate counter set up for WU. I almost didn't get the refund in within the 30 minute period. It took a while to take the required pictures that were legible in my car. Then there was another customer at the WU counter when I went to get a refund. The employee didn't question the refund and gladly gave me back my $20 and the $5 fee.

As KokoBWare said, I would do another if it was inside a chain grocery store, which in my experience, will have a security guard if in a sketchy neighborhood. Also, the editor came back and asked for pictures of the back of the receipt be added. This wasn't in the guidelines.

Was the receipt ripped? I had one where the employee tore off most of the receipt and handed me just the top section. The editor ought to know this is a possibility. They have seen enough examples of the receipt to know that if you don't receive the full length, you won't get the full terms. The editing process on these has gotten better over time but sometimes they seem too happy to reject a shop.

It was not ripped. The printing device this store used cut it off short.
