OMG, I kid you not. Rousted by the cops SIX times in three days!

I forgot that Kansas is a "primary state" - i.e., a cop/sheriff/trooper can pull you over if he sees you are not wearing a seat belt (Nebraska is NOT a primary state -- they can only ticket you for no seat belt if they first pull you over for something else). Hadn't been in Kansas an HOUR before I was pulled over.

Promised to wear my seatbelt. Warning ticket. OK, thank you, officer.

An hour later -- with seat belt on -- pulled over AGAIN. Hadn't seen a speed limit sign since leaving the Interstate, so I was moving along at a sedate 60 mph. Speed limit was 55!!!!

That night, finished my last shop about 9 PM, in a tiny town with one open gas station. I'm too tired to drive further, it's dark, and deer roam these rural areas. I asked the gas station (no hotel/motel or rooms to let) if I could park and rest, and they said sure, go ahead.

Three times the cops came by....to check if I was OK.

Finally in Colorado, breathed a sigh of relief. Headed back toward civilization! It's 10 PM, dark, on a twisty two lane backroad. Some jerk comes up behind me. Right on my tail, of course. I had been going 45 mph, I pulled as far to the right as was safe, and slowed even further. Finally slowed down to about 20 mph, searching for a safe place to pull over and let this idiot of a jerk pass me -- his headlights are blinding, why doesn't he pass??? Doggone it!

Then he puts on his lights and sirens.

I was driving "too slow".

I really, REALLY want to stay home!

Do you have a road trip story?

Nothing compared to yours. Did backtrack 125 miles once because I had shopped the wrong location, and then shopped the wrong location again.

(It was a different location, just not the right one.)

Long before mandatory seat belt laws, my friend's dad survived a crash only because they were not wearing a seat belt.

Anyway, we have been stopped by law enforcement during the early job. We have been seen [by law or others?] driving up to delivery boxes or to businesses. Mind you, this is the early job for the countryside. We are just doing our job! Of course the businesses are closed. We are required to finish these deliveries before anyone arrives to open up for the day! *

*But when supplies are late for us, deliveries are late for them. That is another kettle of fish.

Personal curiosity: How so? Was it a light crash and the seat belts "trapped" the others in the car?

Disabled people who are physically incapable of reaching over and pulling the thing down.
And who normally drive where there's no traffic, anyway. Boy, did I LOVE my little Nissan with the automatic seat belts!

I have fibromyalgia, so there are some days that seatbelts are a struggle for me too. I find it easier if I pull the seatbelt all the way out while I'm still standing outside the door, and then I hold onto it as I get in the seat. That way, I can buckle it and let the slack go once I'm seated. No reaching and twisting needed!

I haven't had quite this many pull overs in one road trip, but I was pulled over 3 times in about 1 hour for a broken headlight. I went to college at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, MI. This lovely little town in rural central Michigan is blessed with 5 police departments: Mount Pleasant Police, Isabella County Sheriff, Michigan State Police, Central Michigan University Campus Police, and Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribal Police. On holiday weekends when the college students are driving home, they're all out on the road. I didn't know the headlight was out until I was pulled over the first time. Mount Pleasant City Police gave me a "fix-it or ticket" that gave me 14 days to fix it before I was fined. I was pulled over two more times on my way out of town, but I just had to show them that I was already ticketed.

(Don't speed within 60 miles of Mount Pleasant, MI, folks! lol)

Though a good friend likely survived a devastating crash because he was NOT wearing a seat belt, he always wears one. He works for the Volunteer Fire Department, and has cleaned up after highway cashes. He believes in seatbelts.

Several years ago I had a merchandising reset job. There was suppose to be 5 merchandisers,I was the only one that showed up. I worked from 7 AM until just after 11 PM to finish it up. I was 75 miles from home and I was so tired I wasn't going to drive home. There wasn't any motels or hotels in the area.So the store manager said that I could stay in the parking lot and sleep in my car. I got woke up 5 times by the police twice in an hour, wanting to know why I was sleeping in my car there.

Years ago, I worked as a security patrolman. I had a construction site for a industrial park way out in the boonies, nothing around for miles. We had to patrol the site 3-4 times a night. Every time I came out of the property and having to stop and close and relock the gate as the property was fenced off, I would get a half mile to a mile down the road and the local sheriff would pull me over and want to know what I was doing out there.(They already knew the answer) and our patrol car was visibly marked on the doors and the back of the car with the company name and the word security on it. After a week of the "harassment" the owner of the security company called the sheriff and filed a complaint about the deputy. I would still get stopped at least once a week and the relief patrolman would also. It turned out the deputy had a relative that had a security guard company and was mad that he didn't get the account and the deputy figured if he kept stopping us all the time that the company I worked for would cancel the contract so then the relative could try and get it. Never worked, we had the contract for 8 months until the place was finished.
