Help! how to use cell phone camera for receipts?

I am trying to switch to my cell phone camera. I have a long receipt that to scan from my computer I would cut in half and lay side by side. The phone camera can take a pic of the whole thing but it is too small to read unless the editor scrolls and enlarges. Is this okay or do I cut it in half and lay side by side in a pic that needs not be enlarged? or what?? thanks.

You have 2 options:

You can put it on the floor and take the picture standing up. This way you can get it in one frame.

Learn how to use portrait mode on you camera. You can take the photo in stages.

Check with the MSC. Some MSCs or clients want the receipts cut and put side by side, others no way.
They do want the receipt in one pic. I really do not know much about phone cameras but the pic i get is too small to read if i leave the receipt in one piece. I did not try to cut it to see if it would be legible that way. But with the receipt in one long piece it is too small to read. On a regular camera pic or a scan I have to fit the whole receipt into one screen (one screen sized rectangle that does not move) so I take it side by side and it is big enough to read the numbers on the receipt. With my cell phone the whole pic if I make it larger does not fit into the one rectangle but I can grab the scrolling bar and scroll out of the rectangle and scroll down and up to see the entire receipt. What i wondered is whether it is ok to attach an image like that which requires making larger and then scrolling or does it need to fit into the standard picture frame size of a rectangle .
Sorry I am probably not describing this well as i do not know the proper lingo needed.
I'm pretty sure they can zoom the image. I would just give it to them in one pic unless they said otherwise.
Have you tried to crop the photo using the built in edit function of your (IPhone) camera. By just including the receipt after editing it should be easier to read. You can also use a free app like GeniusScan to crop and scan it directly. Somewhat depends on your phone but plenty of info online if you Google it. Should be similar for an Android phone.
You can't read the details from your phone screen. The editor can zoom in to check the details.

Thanks, I currently have a free LG phone worth $29 that i got with my cheapo pre paid plan that probably does not do many things or it might be just I have no idea. Amazingly enough I am upgrading and getting a good phone. It's in the mail right now. And I am getting it only 20 years after everyone else. That's a record for me. Once I get that it will be a steep learning curve but there will prob be a lot more functions available to me that i have no idea how to use. I ended up cutting the receipt and scanning it in but next time I will try to load the phone photo and see what happens.
I've always done that and never had any issues. The one thing that I do that might help is to place it on another piece of paper to take the picture (my dining room table often had too much glare). I do a lot of gas stations so I use the back side of my authorization letter, take each of the two receipts, and then my safety vest selfie, all while sitting in my car, then I do the reveal. That also makes sure that I don't lose my receipt and can easily tell which group of pictures goes with which station.

On my samsung, I take a photo of the receipt with the middle (2 trees), then on the photo click on the pencil in order to edit the photo. I move the borders until it is only the receipt and save.

Tip, If you want to do a screenshot of a long receipt, take the 1st screenshot starting on top of the receipt, you will see a blinking arrow pointing down, click on that and take a 2nd screenshot. Continue repeating clicking on the arrow after each screenshot until you take photos of the entire page. The photographs will be saved as 1 that will include the entire page.

Hey thanks everyone. at least i will know how to do one thing on my phone. I am going to try both ways on my next few shops. Just hope they give me a chance to replace the photo if I mess up.
And, you can practice with old shop receipts or non-shop receipts until you are comfortable with how your phone does this,

Can't wait to get my new and upgraded phone so I can try the arrow down to make one photo tip. It is coming by what I just dubbed as Uniced States Pony Express Service. Got here in LA in just two days by a different carrier but the USPS carrying it for the "last mile" must have their ponies stopping for overnight grazing every mile or so.
I guess I mislabled my query. It was really about how to take a long receipt picture ACCEPTABLE to the msc. Right now I have two jobs pending validation with those long receipts on one photo which needs scrolling to see it all. So far, so good.
