How do you put Mystery Shopping on your resume and cover letter?

I am hoping to change careers and go into Market Research (work on the other side and analyze all the MS reports). How do I list this in my resume and cover letter?

I can't answer your question directly because I've never put MSing on a resume, but I swear we just had a thread on this very subject - perhaps a couple of pages ago? If you use the search function and type in resume and filter it by all dates I'm sure you will come across it.

If you have something else for the time frame, you do not need to mention mystery shopping directly. If your degree is related, somehow, to your goal, you might have all you need to get an interview. For all my degrees, I had to demonstrate that I understood research from inception through publication and all they way to application. I have no degree in business, but I did well in the business courses I took and I was accepted into an MBA program. Just now, in a wage job I collect data which others analyze and summarize. I could analyze and summarize it because I understand this and know how to do it. I know what is happening when data is collected by mystery shoppers and when it is formatted and packaged for clients. But that is not my job now. The point is that I could do it because I understand research and have written in various styles and formats. But what about you? What do you have and what have you done that can link you and your experiences to your goal of market research and results analysis? Would your first draft look something like this?

Goal: To secure a position as Market Research Analyst with XYZ Corporation

Education: ???

Skills ???

Certificates: ???

Selected samples of Market Research Analysis: ??? This must not include any information from your covert or overt assignments in this industry! Can you dredge up old, or create new, examples of something related to your goal?

Remember that you can contact any MSC with which you have a good working relationship. Find out if they can spend a little time with you, reviewing what that position entails and requires. How close are you now to what they need?

Threads, due diligence, sound advice from a resume pro, and a little luck might get you where you want to be. Good luck! smiling smiley
