I need advice on cell phone shops for those with no service provider

I see hundreds of these shops, the ones where you need to order something and then return it, go begging on the boards. My service plan is a family plan and I am not the "head" of the family nor do I have permission to make any changes to the family plan. It seems as if I have to add something to my plan such as buy and activate a tablet or watch etc. for the job and accessories are not allowed. I contacted one of the schedulers and he said he thought it would be difficult to do one of these shops if I did not have a service I could add to my plan. I am wondering what sorts of items at the cell phone stores can be purchased and returned for this shop without adding it to your plan to activate.
Is there some way to get around this issue? These seem to be the best paying shops around this area.

Could you buy and return an accessory? A case, screen protector, blue tooth speaker for instance?
You could set up your own independent line of service and then cancel it. I do it all the time as my company provides me a phone so I come in acting like I'm setting up a brand new line of service for myself.

You cannot purchase accessories for these.

Have to activate a new line of service either on an existing account or on a new one. Easy enough to say that it's for a business or that your employer pays for your other line and you want a personal line.
It seems to me that the jobs I have looked at do not allow small accessory purchases. If anyone has done one have they purchased something without adding it to your service. For instance, can I purchase a tablet if they have them or ereader and not sign up to add the item on my account...just walk out of the store with it.
I have never tried to buy something at these stores so I do not know how it works but it seems the item must be something needed to be able to get internet to work.

I see shops around here that require adding a service or making a change to an existing service, in which case you need to be a customer of the provider. But there are also a lot of shops that require just a purchase (phone, smart watch, etc., but not an accessory) with no activation, then a return. You don't need to be a customer of the provider, and you're not allowed to activate the item unless you intend to keep it. You're reimbursed any restocking fee. This sounds like the type of job you want, and the pay is the same as the other type.

I haven't done one yet, but plan on trying to get one as soon as my schedule frees up.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
