Extra Space Storage Shops

I was all excited in regards to this rent a storage locker over the phone shop as it's been awhile since I have done a shop. I am working again but any shop money I make I can put away in the stock market or put towards a vacation so I wanted to do this shop and get back into the groove with mystery shopping again. Until I read the guidelines.

Turns out that there's a chance I may have to fight to get a refund on the storage space fee and that the MSC (can't name it due to the rules here) doesn't seem willing to step up to the plate and issue a refund if Extra Space won't grant a refund. So I cancelled the shop.

I guess why I am posting this? To get an idea if I did the right thing - if my concerns are/were valid in regard to the refund and if this for others is a ten foot pole shop. Thanks for your reply(ies). Morocco77

My shop was cancelled in the same hour. My refund appeared on my credit card within an hour as well.

I've done over 50 of these and only twice did they not refund me. The MSC most certainly did and they pay 30 days. The schedulers are great so I would not worry about not being reimbursed if for some reason Extra Space doesn't refund you.
I do these shops everyday. Never had a problem. Once, the charge did not disappear but then I called my credit card company and had it cancelled. Now, the MSC has a form that you could send them for a refund in case there is a problem.

I don't know who the guy is who signed the reveal letter, but the storage unit employee knew because he couldn't undo the transaction fast enough.
Has the MSC changed the procedure for these phone shops? The ones I've done in the past, you didn't have to rent, just had to go online, make a reservation, wait for a return phone message, then call them and have a recorded conversation.

They have two versions of the shop one is a call and inquiry which pays less and one is a rental which pays significantly more. The rental requires you call to cancel.

The person signing the letter is a VP of operations,I believe.
I got yelled at today while trying to get a refund. I did a shop a week ago and noticed that the charge hadn't been reversed. I called the location and tried talking to the employee there. She said she would call me back in 10 minutes. Hours passed, so I called back. She yelled at me like I was some 5 year old trying to disturb her peaceful existence. My scheduler said I could say I was a shopper so she would listen. I tried that too and she said " It's great you are a shopper but I will call you when I have time" besides other rude things. She wouldn't even let me speak. But, I did get the reversal receipt and the charge was reversed. My, My...how you can manage to be insulting while calling someone Ma'am. Wow!
The client has 3 types of shops, revealed audits, mystery shops, mystery shops with purchase & refund, and phone mystery shops with purchase & refund. I have done and will do any of these types of shops for this client except the phone shops. I have never had an issue with the refund portion.
I've done one of the in-person rent, reveal, refund scenarios. No issue at all with the refund.

My name is in their system, since I actually did rent a unit for awhile. How do you all get around that when you do another rent shop? With the phone shops, they say to use a different name and phone number for each shop, but when you pay over the phone, your CC information is in your real name. How do you rent in one name and pay in another?

With the inquiry-only shops, it's easy to use an alias. When these get bonused up, I love doing them, but not touching one at base rate, since you never know how long the tour is going to take....

I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
With the phone rental shops, a different phone number is not required each time Vs the inquiry only shops. Also, they only ask for CC info like numbers, expiry, and 3 digit code and never the name. You can change your first name and use your actual last name for each call. That is what I do and never had a problem.

I have only rented from ESS as part of a shop. Apparently my name gets deleted from their system when I do the cancellation/refund portion of the shop. I always do the cancellation portion immediately after I take pictures and do whatever else I need to do (while in my car still on their lot). Giving a different phone number or email is easy enough. I also use a different credit card just in case. None of the shops I have done required or gave me the option to pay by phone. I do not shop a location where I think the manager might recognize me from doing an audit there in the past.
