Bank Shops

I do a lot of account opening and bank complaint shops. I never fund the accounts. What do bankers think when they look at my profile?

I was told a few years ago by a scheduler that the complaint records for the Stagecoach bank are deleted once the shop is fully approved. When the Escalation Team calls me back and I tell them it is a mystery shop, not an actual problem, they are always so happy.

I have never been able to open a checking or savings account without putting some money into it immediately. The amount has ranged from $25 to $100. Some accounts require direct deposit, a higher balance, or etc., and they offer a from a month to 3 months to achieve that, but there always seems to be a minimum deposit on Day #1.

I "roll over" the opening deposit to a new account every 60 days. I have been doing this for a few years. One banker questioned the numerous accounts, but was happy to open yet another one for me.

If opening WF checking accounts w/ the required $25, after 60 days you will be charged either $5 or $10 depending on the type of account opened. Just did a complaint one, the banker just looked at me like what? You walked into our bank and the banker pushed you into opening the account? why were you there? I put on my saddest face and replied I was just there to get some info….and I was pushed into it. I never really wanted to open it. Felt like I deserved an Academy Award!
Remember this thread? It's enough to make me pass on these, though I did a couple and left them open for over a year.

I have a WF savings account that I opened maybe 5 years ago. There is apparently something not quite right about it, but I have no idea what it is. So, I never make a deposit into it, and I go in and say I have no idea where this account came from. They never do either. in reality, I know it is mine, but for the purpose of complaining, it has been great!

we are mystery shoppers….paid to enact whatever scenario the said bank is needing to see….can their employees handle this type of complaint? I always remember who is paying me and why, puts things in perspective.
I keep thinking of opening a savings account...sounds easier to keep track of than another checking acct. There are pages and pages of branches in my city. Can you only go once to each branch? and can you do multiple branches in a month other than the one where you opened the acct or can you only complain to the original branch? It seems worthwhile to do this if you can go to other branches.
Earlier this year, I received a check for approx. $80. It was a settlement of a class action suit, paid to me from an assignment where I was required to open an account with WF. It was a nice, but certainly unusual, double dip.
Bob was that allowed? Have you done shops since the class action?

They have your information on file. Everybody that opened an account during that period was part of the class action and received the check.
I believe the class action suits at several major banks are why they are doing compliance shops now.
Yes, I received a nice check and it was a surprise.
