United "In Flight"

For anyone who has done one of these, are you reporting on one flight or both for round trip? I don't see it clarified in the guidelines. It seems it's only one flight, but want to check what other's may have experienced. Thanks in advance

I did it for one flight. I took a one way trip on United and shared with the scheduler I was taking another airline back. As long as it meets the distance requirements you’re good. I also recommend seeing if you can bundle it with a gate shop to make even a few more bucks.

I normally do it as a round trip. I also do the club if it's available.

It is assigned for a single flight, not a round trip. If the other flight qualifies, it would be a second shop. It has to be a domestic flight. I have not flown since January 2020 due to the pandemic. I am a Million Miler on United, so I took these whenever I could. In my experience, they often did not mention the "promotion", so I would have to find a reason to ask. I got paid every time. The hardest ones for me were the domestic connections to flights from Asia when I had to stay awake! I also did the Club shops whenever they fit into my schedule.

So if you do a round trip, you are paid double? Nice. I was thinking that they probably won't mention the promo thingy with all that's going on now with flying. They probably have their hands full.

I have watched the fee on these drop to just a tiny fraction of what they used to be. So sad.

It is for a given segment. Thus if one flies, for example, LAX-DEN-ORD-SFO-LAX one can conduct 4 In-Flight shops. Don't forget to snag 4 In-Club shops too, one for each airport.

If my memory serves me correctly isn’t there a mile requirement? I believe the flight needs to be over 500 miles or something like that. I used to fly from EWR to BOS weekly and was never eligible..

Yes, there is a mileage requirement. But ATL to EWR worked for me.

I miss the old company that had these. They had nice reimbursements.

Do they check or they rely on us to know those details? The reason I ask is that I have a flight (already paid for) that is 50 miles shy of the requirement. I’m thinking of asking the scheduler if this is ok. Either way I’m taking the trip and it would be nice to get a few bucks back.

One is required to submit an itinerary prior to shop assignment. I believe that the distances are checked before assignment. On the plus side, Bill, who handles this shop, is the single best scheduler for the MSC. Friendly and responsive. Occasionally he makes a mistake - assigning the wrong club, for example - but when mistakes are point out he owns up to his error and apologizes. Too few in the industry do that.

Bill is an excellent scheduler. He knows what qualifies and what doesn't. You submitted your itinerary. He approved it. Just complete the shop.

Agree! I love working with Bill!!

I'd love to figure our how to combine the in-flight and club shops with airline points and mattress runs. I'd happily spend the weekend flying hither and yon collecting points if I could make the fees cover the cost.

1. Since the client (United) has been named, we are not allowed to tell you the MSC that schedules the shops.

2. They are not paying for your flights or booking them for you. Once you have your itinerary, you can apply to do mid-flight observations and/or visits to the United Club.
