Could be my best 5 Guys shop ever!

I did a 5G shop today at a location I've never done before. A win all the way around. First because I offered $5 more than the MAO base amount because it was a ways away, and it was accepted. Usually I can't get more than $1 or $2 over. Second because the food was absolutely delicious. Usually my entree is great, but the fries are often hit and miss. These were truly perfect. The place was clean, there was no grease mark outside the door, there was actually a manager on duty (not always the case these days), and so on. Other than marking down one crew member for an unprofessional action, I think I gave about the highest rating to this location I've ever given. Except for one store that's now closed, sadly.

It's nice to go and not have a lot of things to mark them down on. I'd go back to this location on my own dime next time I'm in that area.

Oh, and for some reason, even the burger was better today. I think it's because it was just the other side of pink. Jucier than usual, but not undercooked. Sometimes I feel like some locations overcook the burgers a little. This one was so tasty. Honestly, if the one near me was this good, I'd do more of these. I'm not supposed to have many fries due to the carbs, but with a burger that good, I'd be happy with a few and then bring the rest home.

Not shopping but ours is empty at noon almost every day. Dont see how they stay open.

This one was pretty empty, too, and at the dinner hour. But there seemed to be quite a few take-out orders while we were there. I hope this one stays in business. There were three in my city a few years ago, one of which was pretty meh, but the other was the best of the three. It was in a stretch of a zillion fast-food restaurants, though, and maybe the competition was too much. It was my favorite location to shop.

I do wonder how some locations stay in business, but maybe they're doing a lot more delivery and take-out these days.

The nearest location to me (an hour away) might be open even though its host mall has been closed for at least a few days due to social distancing concerns. This location has an outside entrance and does not need to rely on its interior mall entrance. I am going to be near there today and will find out if they and nearby stores that open to the parking lot are still open.

I actually never think of or hear them advertise take out. They do but they keep it quiet.

Birdy, that put a smile on my face. Thank you for sharing!

I LOVE their fries. On the survey: was another register not opened (even though 4 or more were in Line) due to COVID distancing? How am I supposed to know why a 2nd register was not opened. They needed one to be but all crew in the kitchen were working at break neck speed as it was. The restaurant was busy.

Did you get a chance to see if they're open? Being an hour away, do you ever do a single shop there, or do you try to work one into a route?

I forgot to do that. Two errands took five times longer than expected, and we added something else in yet another town before scurrying back here for the night shift..I have not shopped there in years and years and years, and I have forgotten when I did them. Your posts about a good experience and closed locations reminded me of the nearest one and the mall and... well... *blush*

LOL. I know exactly what you mean. Things get away from me like that all the time. Would be interesting to know if they're open while the rest of the mall is closed.

I read the other day that 5G is closing a lot of locations. Wonder if it's because they're getting so pricey.

Why would 5G be a culprits for locations?

Culprits? I'm not sure I understand. But I'll try to find the article I read and post it here.

Some locations are very busy when I shop there. Others, not so much. The food prices must have something to do with it.

Last time I did one location it was busy and I got order number 6. This was around 7 PM. I asked and the girl said they start over once they reach 99. So it appears some days can be busier than others.
I think could be closing because the are so darn expensive. average cost of the burger, fries, and drink is $15.00.
This is fast food, not a fancy restaurant.
A 4th location was opened this past spring in my medium sized city. All are consistently excellent.

When they're dead on with everything, I think it's close to being worth the price. But so often they're not--especially with the fries. But when you can get a Red Robin burger meal for the same price, with endless fries if you dine in and/or a better selection of sides....

It doesn't have to be endless fries, I've gotten endless salad. I think it's endless whatever side you choose, but I don't think you can switch once you've chosen. You know fries this time, a refill of salad, a refill of another side.

I didn't know that! I thought it was just the fries. Next time we go there "in person," I'll definitely have an endless salad. We've only gotten take-out recently from there, but I'd love a burger and endless salad! I love their bleu burgers.

Their broccoli is surprisingly good, and can turn the burger into a very healthy meal.

FG is great but the issue that keep cropping up in my shops is the WET lettuce, drippy pickles and unblotted patty that make the burger TOO WET and sog up the bread. Great burgers but this happens a LOT on my shops.

That sounds so ugh! I usually get my burger in a bowl, and the lettuce is always crisp, not soggy, nor are the pickles. But last time I got the sandwich with the bun, and none of these issues. Maybe this is something peculiar to your area?
