Comments / Evaluations / Narratives

Anywhere I can find samples of narratives so I can have an idea how it is done? The schedulers are not big fans of the way I do my narratives, I am new and trying to learn. Thanks everyone

If you specify the client (don't mention the MSC), we might be able to help you. Narratives vary widely from one client to another, and even within assignments for a particular client. Your request is so broad that I can't imagine how to respond in a helpful manner without more information.

The schedulers or the editors? Would you mind sharing some of the most-common feedback you've received, or are you just getting generalized comments that aren't positive? Are you following sample narrative style when it's provided?

Some clients want extensive detail, others a brief overview. Some say they want a "summary," when what they really want is a detailed account.

As myst4au said, there are so many variables, we can't help without a little more specificity.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
Some companies do provide "sample" narratives; you can find them on the individual company's website.
Copy and save copies of your shop submissions to a Word doc, add any editor feedback to the bottom, do lots of shops, and you will have your own samples in no time!
AZ, not many shoppers are as tech-challenged as I am, but I don't have a clue what you just said.

I generally print out my narrative, and when and if I get feedback, I write it on the narrative and file it for that shop. Actually in a Manila file titled "Narrative Samples".

Sort of old school....but when my computer died a few months ago, I didn't lose a single file I needed, rotflmfao!

Oh, I know -- people told me to back up info, back up info! I don't know for sure what that means, but whatever hit my computer wiped the hard drive clean, so there wasn't even an operating system left on the computer. So I bought a computer. How in the world could I have accessed anything that I HAD backed-up?

Clueless.....
You could have backed up your files on an external hard drive (plugs in like a USB stick but with much higher capacity) or on a web storage site somewhere. For you, I would suggest an external hard drive. They are not very expensive. Many even come with free backup software to automate the process.

Use Google. It's free-of-charge. Create a folder on Google Drive; name it something like Narratives. Inside that folder, save individual documents (files) or one consolidated document with a page break inserted between each new narrative (for ease of reading later).
Google Drive saves to the cloud, so your folder and files will be saved automatically "out there" on the interwebs and you can retrieve what you need when you need it. You can access Google Drive (with your logon and password) on your phone, library computer, hotel computer, someone's computer, etc.
Plus you can do an electronic search inside the document(s) for keywords, client names, dates, locations, etc.

You can also use Microsoft 365 similarly.

Bilingual (Spanish<>English)
Obviously I'm having difficulty clearly expressing the vastness of my ignorance.

I do not know Google drive, haven't the foggiest idea how to "create a folder" therein.

Wouldn't have a clue how to login to Google Drive.

Don't know electronic search therein, or Microsoft 365.

Don't know Word, either (just throwing that in for illustrative purposes, LOL).

Don't know "external hard drive", wouldn't have a clue how to use one (but am confident I am capable of ruining both it and any electronic device I try to use it on/in!).

Don't ask how I continue to function MSing and merchandising -- somehow, with lots of help from schedulers/project managers, I manage to muddle through.

I must do something right, because...well, I do keep getting assignments, doing them correctly, and submitting them on time.
