Charter/Spectrum shops

We moved into our place almost two years ago. This month one of our Charter discounts will go away, and a second one will next month. Has anyone had luck getting their price lowered during the course of a shop?

Not necessarily done during a shop but better if you can get paid while you do it, there are ways to get lower Spectrum/Charter rates.

The first and easiest is to say you will cancel unless you get a better deal. This might not work since Spectrum will be the Internet provider in your area so in order to stream, you have to buy stand alone Internet from them at a higher price than their bundled prices.

When you shop them, they will pitch you the full cable package and either a double, triple or quadruple play. That is cable and Internet, Internet and mobile, cable and home phone or any and all combinations of these.

If they pitch you the full cable TV package, ask if there is anything less expensive. They have three streaming packages that can be had but only if you ask for them. They'll pull out the other sheets. The one thing they all have in common is that they are all streamed so you have to have Spectrum Internet.

One lets you pick a bunch of channels, I believe 15-20 plus locals. It just depends on what channels you watch and what they include in the package.

One package doesn't include locals, which you can probably get over the air with an old style antenna. I've found that those small indoors antennas don't do enough compared to a rooftop or attic mounted antenna. It depends how far you are from the TV broadcast antennas. You would also have to switch the input mode from HDMI, coax or antenna on your TV depending on how you want to watch.

You can save money if you choose to remain with Spectrum cable. If you have a recent Samsung SmartTV or Roku where you can download and use the Spectrum app. It eliminates the $8 or so cable box fee per TV.

I personally have Spectrum Internet and I stream through a Firestick that costs about $30. Walmart had the Roku stick for $15 several months ago. There are enough free apps available on the Firestick and my over the air broadcasts that I don't need Spectrum cable. I honestly only subscribe to Paramount + (I like the CBS shows, but it doesn't include Yellowstone's recent season) for $6.99 but my us my nieces Amazon Prime login to see other shows. There are apps you can stream major network shows the next day of the next week for free, like Peacock (NBC) with commercials.

Changing your mobile to Verizon via Spectrum will get you a discounted Internet rate for a double play.

The other thing you can do is switch to their mobile which uses the Verizon network to get a package discount, In order to get mobile, you have to have Internet. I believe unlimited everything is about $40 per phone. Less if you don't need unlimited data.

You may have to buy your phone. Check if Verizon has 5G in your area before you buy a 5G phone. My belief is that before Verizon has 5G in my area, I can get a 5G phone for much less than what they are charging now.

T-Mobile has better 5G coverage in regards to real estate, but I can't comment in regards to speeds or quality.

Sorry for being long winded, but I hope I helped.

Maybe I should go to work for Spectrum???? What and miss out on the fantastic $15-17 mystery shops?
Thanks for all the information.

In the past we've tried to get them to lower rates by threatening to leave. They do nothing, except send a letter a month after we've actually moved carriers saying they miss us :-)

We currently have TV (the streaming service that we access via Roku) and internet. No desire to have a land line any more, and based on information I've gathered from shops we already pay less for our cell phones than they could offer.

Kathy ask Spectrum if you can get a bundle discount if you bundle a home phone for about $10 per month. The reduction on your Internet bill might be worth getting a home phone you never us or just use for mystery shopping.
You're right; it might be nice to have an extra number to use for apartment shops!

That's the only other option in my area, and we tend to go back and forth, changing to take advantage of the new customer deals. However, it would be nice not to have to do that.

You could switch to AT&T/DirectTV, if you don't have enough problems in your life.

It's the same here, Spectrum or AT&T. I had DirectTV before they bought it and it was great, so when they were offering a deal I kept saying No until they offered $400, then switched. I'm going back to Spectrum when my year is up.
