What do you enjoy about mystery shopping?

Personally, I love looking at new things, going new places, talking to people, and sometimes even the reporting. Also, the fact that I can schedule (sometimes) when I feel I have free time.

Flexibility for my schedule; role playing for my inner dramatist.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
It's been a huge help with my grocery budget!! I've even been able to do grocery shops that were bonused enough to allow me to get a couple of hubby & mine's favorite steaks....thin ribeyes!
Flexibility in scheduling, and seeing improvements on things I reported being an issue when I was at the location, previously.

I had a gas station manager get the top tier sticker because of my audit. And he pointed it out the next time I was there. Made me feel good.

Same with me. I too have gotten some ribeyes since my grocery bill has gone down.
Good thread. I get satisfaction when I notice that things got repaired or employees got sales coaching on return visits.
It suits me and my odd energy. For the most part, I can match the work to my time/energy. Sometimes, I want a lot. At other times, I want little. Occasionally, I want something new and a learning curve. Often, I want an old familiar gig and little to no chance of my error. It is expandable and collapsible, and I come and go at will (as long as I finish all my planned work). This is good. Getting stuff that I want is like icing on the cake.

I love the variety -- I've done so many new types of shops lately! I also love seeing good service and being able to give credit where credit is due. And the groceries are an absolute godsend.
The flexibility and the extra $$$$

I love getting paid to run an errand that was on my to do list.

I also like the knowledge that I acquire about products and services. Many times this knowledge eventually translates into real life savings of time and or money.
The independence, I enjoy planning out my routes, going places I never thought about going, twice I found stores I really wanted to go to but didnt think I lived near any locations and boom there they are, trying new restaurants, and the excitement of what am I gonna do this month.
Money. I'm an old mechanic that just can't move anymore in ways that I need to move so that I can repair cars. So I can't really work, I hate being indoors, and I hate being stuck in office buildings with women wearing makeup and all the the smells that come from other people. Since my nose surgery I really can't smell much but what I can smell really annoys me. When I'm in an office building or in any building that I can't get out of easily I start sweating and panicking. I'm also really sensitive to temperatures. Offices keep their air conditioning or climate controls at temperatures that are far too warm for my comfort.

Secret shopping and gas station audits give give me the freedom to not have to find a job in an office.
The ability to drop everything at a moments notice if my (youngest/ medically fragile) daughter needs me.
I like how I can find shops in all parts of town to line up with other errands I need to do.

First, I love the money I make. Secondly, I love getting free food, car washes or oil changes. Thirdly, I like apartment shopping, because I like looking at new apartments just to see how other people live and getting ideas on the decorations of the model apartments for my own home.
Almost the opposite here. i am always too cold. I wear winter clothes in summer, all layered up, and look like a homeless person or something. I work a few hours per week in an office building and thank g every day for computer health factoids and employer generosity. We can take little breaks every hour-- in part to move our eyes away from computer screens and in part for whatever we want. I always want to leap from the chair and prance around until I can move even better,. I manage to heave myself from the chair and lumber about the place until I must return to my desk.

I just had this happen. Reported some giant potholes in a parking lot and they were patched up the next time I went!
I love all the new places I have discovered.. Through mystery shopping i have gone to restaurants I never thought of going to and since joined their rewards clubs. Even though they are no longer mystery shopped my friends and I still go to these places I found. I live in a huge city with too many choices so this helps me find my personal gems.
I love that I can take as much work as I want and then quit everything for some time, only to take it up again. The little income even if it is 300 or 400 bucks a month makes me happy.
All of the wonderful freebies and providing businesses with an insight into performance issues.
I also like that brilliant people started this forum and share useful information here. Knowing what some gigs entail reminds me that I do not have to go anywhere or do anything just for money. If I do not like the concept, the gig, or the place, I can stay away and use my energy in other ways.

It has introduced me to shops I would never go to, I.e. power sports, certain restaurants, areas of town or county and allowed me to buy items that I consider luxury at the market, such as the $5 container of Reddi-Whip foam which I put on my drip coffee and pretend it is a latte!
Just realized I have been doing this for 14 years! Like everyone else, I love the extras, the money, and the experiences. Also, I enjoy chances to collect information for future purchases such as when I was exploring quotes on insurance or appliances.
I also like that we in the forum are like a microcosm of the larger world. We are unique, like different things, might be considered too old, too young, or too something or other to do what we would like to do in this industry (or elsewhere), and can provide a wide variety-- or a focused and narrow set-- of perspectives to clients. I like the whole bunch of us!
