FYI Sonic Shops: only tots/fries acceptable sides starting 6/1

I have a few Sonic shops later this week so I rechecked the paperwork tonight. Apparently they updated the guidelines on 05/02. Starting 06/01/22, only tots or fries will be acceptable sides, given that one of the new questions will be whether the tots/fries are salted appropriately.

Just thought I'd mention this as a heads up for others who might have Sonic shops coming up!

The best "side" for Sonic is the view of the "restaurant" on the side of the road as one drives by it. I couldn't be paid enough to go there. YMMV.

Yeah, the food isn't the greatest but I don't mind them as they are fairly easy to complete. I sometimes can get a fairly nice bonus near the middle/end of the month, so I'll usually take a few. But I understand those who avoid the shops as well. Just thought I'd post the info about the new side requirements in case it helps anyone.
My son has been doing the remote shops for $50 each, and the local ones for $15 - $25. He's very upset he won't be able to get mozarella sticks anymore... lol

Thank you very much for sharing. That was very kind of you.

I always get the tots, anyway. I love (LOVE!) the onion rings, but they put me over reimbursement!

And thanks for the heads up!

@ceasesmith I also always get the tots. I've gotten the onion rings only a couple times but they are too expensive now, and I actually quite like the tots if they are fresh! smiling smiley
Thank you for this. I’ve done these often so I would’ve gotten mozzarella sticks as usual and wouldn’t have thought twice

My son never rechecks the guidelines either. That's usually my job and it's usually after the fact when he's done something stupid.
In my opinion, Sonic has the BEST tater tots. When I shopped them that's what I always ordered.

Y'all can still get your mozzarella sticks and onion rings for a few more days grinning smiley The new requirements don't take effect until 6/1 like @sstsau pointed out!

Going off on a bit of a tangent - are these shops really in slim pickings for everyone right now or just my part of the country (especially for this time of the month)? I have only done 4 this month because my offers keep getting rejected and the board is pretty bare. I can usually get a profitable route of these shops at least one or two days in a month...but not this time.
@patman9760 A few of the locations that I shop somewhat regularly seemed to have been taken pretty early on this month, but they are fairly popular so I wasn't too surprised they were already claimed. The locations further away from me that usually sit on the boards still appear to be sitting around. I was still able to get 3 shops for $20 fee each (2 at the same location), which DID surprise me since the MSC has usually declined anything above $15 for me these past few months.

A scheduler also called me this evening and at first asked me to accept a shop for $10 (the jobs are already at $10 and MAO on the job board), so I declined and asked for at least $15 (I got it for the $15 after the scheduler put in the request to his supervisor). I've been avoiding answering the scheduler calls these past few months because it's a bit frustrating that they offer fees that are already on the job board (or even sometimes below!), so I will just wait and MAO instead.

Sorry, I kind of went off a bit there, but I hope I sort of addressed your question!
Another new update to the guidelines on 05/17/22.

In addition to only allowing tots or fries as the side starting on 6/1, we are also no longer allowed to customize/add anything to the tots/fries. So no chili or cheese, etc. I assume because the toppings would get in the way of our evaluation of the salt levels for the tots/fries.

For the drink they've also added not to get a fountain drink slush (like a Coke slush), although I didn't even know such an option existed!
Back in the early 00s, Middle Son and Youngest Son worked at Sonic (not at the same time). I learned that they had quite an extensive secret menu.

I sure hope that doesn't mean that I can't have any more limeade. When my son does more than 1 or 2 sonics in a day he orders limeade to bring home to me, because they only make ONE good thing. And it's probably minutemaid anyway.
I usually get the tots, but it is nice to have the option (even if you have to pay a little more) for rings or sticks. I don't do a ton of Sonics due to distance.
I always get the tots anyway because I don't like fries that much, and don't want mozzie sticks with a burger. However, the quality of the tots varies WILDLY. I've had some that were absolute mush, some that tasted like rancid oil, and occasionally some that were perfect. So I'm glad I'm not paying for them.
It drives me insane when they do not put the cherries and limes in my limeade! Like, “Hello! Cherry Limeade is Sonic’s signature drink here!” Certain locations never put cherries nor limes in there! It makes me sooooo bonkers! A cherry limeade without cherries and/or limes it’s like a cheeseburger without cheese!
Sigh. I love the mozzarella sticks. I will really miss those. I wonder if the breakfast shops will ever come back. And the late-night. All I've seen ever since the pandemic has been 11-8. For a while they were only open 11-8 but they've been back to pre-pandemic hours for a long time now.

Hmm. In my area, that was the normal timeframe before the pandemic...not Sonic's actual hours but the default timeframe for shops.

Happily shopping the Pacific Northwest. Shopping since 2013 smiling smiley
Yes, the best thing there is thier onion rings. I can't understand why you have to get a burger or a hot dog. Like the real customers never order anything chicken?

They said that the time it takes to cook chicken would interfere with the timings.
Pretty sure I was banned from doing Sonic shops for stating one too many times that the fries were cold and tasted like they had been sitting under a warmer to long. I even decide to try them again the other day hoping they were better. They still tasted like dried up cardboard. Occasionally I would get some that tasted good, like they just came out of the fryer, but most of the time they were terrible, and I generally love fries.

The only fries I have ever got there have snuck in with the tots I ordered. They are really bad!
I always get tots with my Sonic burger but sadly they put to much salt on them.

Be nice if we can get them with no salt.

Two days ago, I saw 5 Sonic shops posted in my area for $ 8.. Now they are all gone

Why would you be banned from stating that your fries were cold? As shoppers are we supposed to tell the truth so they can make improvements if needed?
