What's a reasonable amount to expect for Storage shop?

I have only done 2 storage shops in the 20 years I have been shopping. Both were done this year (one in April 2022/one in May 2022).

The pay I did it for was $90 on the first one and $80 on the second one. These were not the initial pay, but bonused amounts. I figured I would give it a shot at those fees.

I see other storage shops posted at $20-$30 to start. I wouldn't touch for that amount and that is why I haven't done a storage shop prior to this year.

These were not remote locations either. Both were "urban" areas in the suburbs of Los Angeles.

What is a fair fee for you to do one? I'm thinking I could do another one for $50, but probably not less than that.

If it is truly a storage mystery shop (go in, ask about renting a unit, look at a unit, come up with an excuse not to rent, maybe look at a restroom, take a street view photo), I personally do them for $25 or more. They are generally very easy. I have never seen one bonused for more than $50 (total).

There are also a variety of different types of audits of storage locations which demand much higher fees in my opinion.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
There are storage shops where you actually have to rent a unit, and then have the fee reversed on your credit card. I would never do one of those, but I would think with the added hassle of having to actually rent a unit, a fee of $50 or $60 would be a fair starting point.
I tried one last year before a TXRH 1/2 mile away; it paid $30, but for me that was unacceptable. I raised my fee to $50 and completed three; that is where I stand today.. I can not think of any situation that would tempt me to lower the money.
Yes, to be clear, these were just calling ahead (no target), and then visiting and inquiring about a unit (using the furniture scenario they provided) and seeing what unit size was recommended. Then letting the storage manager/employee lead the presentation and try to "close me." These were rather simple and I was glad to do them for $90 and $80 respectively. They were with the same MSC, but the storage company was different between the 2.

The first one was much more thorough and gave me much more information. The 2nd one was 14:06 on site and very basic. No real "selling" but just showing me the property and giving me basics. The 2nd report I liked less because there was more narrative and I really had nothing to say since I was not supposed to dominate the presentation. I was supposed to leave it up to the rep.

I'm hoping these come up again (different locations of course) but with the same pay. I would think there would have to be a rotation requirement. The same person can't keep going every month or even every couple of months and acting interested and not renting. That would look suspicious. Maybe that is why these paid so much. The shopper pool for these 2 areas had been exhausted.
