Odd discount, has this ever happened to you?

I did two mattress shops today. Returned home, checked email and the company I shopped had sent me an email promotion, offering a big discount if I pay with PayPal.
I never left any information except one of the salespeople asked for my name. I gave them my real name - but did not leave an email address, phone number or anything. Very weird. There are several people in the US who have the same name as me.

A good chance it was something on your phone tracking your location and then selling the info to advertisers. I haven't had that specifically happen to me, but I have seen convenience store clerks from far away popping up in my friends suggestions.
I'm not surprised. Especially if you're using gmail, chrome, any other free email provider, etc...
There are programs to text people who enter a radius, and I have also received emails from companies immediately following a visit. Definitely unethical. Definitely common.
I can imagine how confusing we mystery shoppers are to Big Data; my entire day yesterday was spent visiting 14 gas stations, all the same brand. Definitely messing up an algorithm or two along our routes, lol.
Way to stick it to The Man :-)
