So, how long do you keep your pictures?

I was just wondering....I tend to keep mine, but they SURE take up a lot of space. I know I can move them to flash drives, etc. But, how many gas station pictures, or pics of my untouched food do I need to keep and for how long? Six years? LMK what you do! TIA!

I guess for me, it depends on the shop.

For JITB (8-10 pic), I usually delete the NEXT day. These shops cannot be edited or resubmitted. So extra pictures are not helpful since they won't come back and ask you.

For Panda Express, I usually just delete after the report is accepted.

For my Nevada shops, I usually save on my laptop in a folder.
I use to keep every single pic. Now I keep them until I am paid. Sometimes I do get an inquiry after being paid, but it is always about "was this or that said" or observed. I have never been asked to resubmit a photo after the shop has been approved and paid.

I keep most of them forever or until I run out of space on my hard drives. I throw out JIB photos around February of each year. I keep videos for a year, but I keep casino/hotel resort videos forever or until I run out of space. I keep written shop files forever. I guess I keep digital files longer than many shoppers, because I have lots of space. I do NOT keep them on my smartphone more than a couple weeks though, since I have already copied them to my computer hard drive.
I keep all of my pictures either on a Flash drive or on the hard drive on my desktop computer for a minimum of 6 months. I have a tax file for Receipts, though i usually end up deleting them after i don't need them to do my taxes.. lol
I upload all of mine to Google Drive. I will delete them when I need more space. But, Google Drive gives you tons of space, so I keep mine for a while.

Shopping Arkansas, Louisiana, & Mississippi.
In some serious overkill, I keep them on my phone for 6 months, and those ones I send to my computer tend to stay there forever.
I usually do like 4-5 JitB in a row so I like to delete them immediately after submitting. They're still in the "trash" for 30 days, but I will never need them. It makes it easier to attach the next batch quickly not needing to sort through them at each stop.
EXACTLY!!! And the MSC already made it clear there is NO resubmission. So there is no need to hang on to these photos unless you want to reminisce when google photos reminds you (pictures) of something that happened 1 year or 2 years ago.

Storage on a flash drive is cheap insurance. My preference is to save in .doc, .xls and ,pdf formats as these are international standards for which I can be reasonably certain there will always be software to open. I prefer NOT to use cloud storage as ultimately preservation is an issue for me, not for the cloud vendor.

I am required by various MSCs to retain records for various lengths of time and by IRS to retain everything for about 5 years with my shop sheets (record of original entry) saved forever. It is a waste of time to piddle through old thumb drives looking for things to throw away. 18 years of records are on thumb drives in the back of the drawer and 17 of them are already transferred to an external drive stored in my safety deposit box. After the end of the year the external drive will be recovered and the 2022 shop information will be added to it. Once my 2022 tax return is filed, original receipts, paper notes, materials collected etc. will be destroyed for any work done prior to 2018. No reason to wipe the thumbs.
3 years from the date I file my taxes, so if I am ever audited I have visual proof I was at the location as well as mileage reports.
I keep mine until a day when I am looking at the files either on my phone or my computer and decide I have too many. Then I toss most that are more than a few months old but try to keep one example if it has a menu on it or something I might want to refer to for a later job. I do a lot of post office shops and keep at least one of them from each location for labeling purposes. Using the label format from an earlier shop and just changing the date is quicker for me than re labeling the whole name. I do my reports on a computer so I have to name the photo to find them.
once I have been paid the photo is eligible to be deleted. It will eventually get deleted when I need room or get around to it.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
When I get paid or the next time I do that shop at that location and see the pictures I have. I reuse my folders and that way it makes it easy to sort them by date..
I move all photos to my hard drive immediately after the shop, and delete them from my phone. I keep photos of receipts for the IRS recommended amount of time, since physical receipts often fade

My photos are kept in a file on my laptop's hard drive that is labeled for the type of shop and its address. Example: for an E/M or Shell shop, the file is stored under Shell or E/M files and then, individually, by the city and then, its address - Shell / Pleasant Valley MN, 1800 North Happy Street.
When I perform the shop again, I examine those photos on the file for specific problem or noted areas and then send them to the Recycle Bin.
About every 3 months, I save my Recycle Bin photos to a remote hard drive or thumb drive, while, at the same time, permanently discarding the older files on the same remote hard drive or thumb drive.
Sometimes its fun and interesting to look at the depth of the snow at the site when its nowmelted and gone.
