Shell Gas Station

Has anyone noticed that in the guidelines for the Shell gas stations, there is this: Ensure you have a smartphone for photographs onsite.

That is interesting to me because nowhere else does that specifically say a "smartphone" must be used for photos.
I've always used a digital camera.

A key difference is that a smartphone will include meta-data in the file to provide geolocation, time, etc. A typical digital camera will not include the same amount of information (often just the camera settings and sometimes the date and time if you have set those). I think that is why some MSCs are specifying smartphones for shops. The date and time in the meta-data from a smartphone will always be correct, [Yes, I know that it is possible to edit meta-data, but that is an advanced topic.]

If they want me to use the camera on my phone, they're gonna hafta put it on the platform that has a working app.

Meanwhile, I will continue to use my digital camera, download the photos to my PC, and do the report on my PC.

Although I recently got a report sent back because the "meta data" showed the date as June 1, 2008; after I stopped laughing, I explained that the date was the first day I used the digital camera, and every photo has that date. I don't know how to change it.

Photo and report accepted and paid.

In reviewing past guidelines, I cannot find those instructions in the "Prep" information.

You can take photos onsite with your smartphone and then upload them later via the website browser of your desktop pc, laptop, or smartphone. I did not see anything in the guidelines that said you MUST upload the photos while doing the shop/audit.
