Ms Judi, You have enlightened my areas back to myself. I never would have thought to send it to myself.
My hubby told me I need to tip the postman. He sometimes delivers 3-5 boxes a day to me several times per week. The same boxes..over and over again until they wear out. I also ship cookies to friends and kids at holidays and during winter, as well as, ebay sales when it works.

Mail carriers actually aren't allowed to accept tips.
You're right about cash (and technically a gift card is considered cash also), but mail carriers can accept inexpensive (under $20) gifts.

Yes, you are correct. I always think of a tip as money.

My mail person sends me Xmas card each year and I send her a check as a thank you for what she does all year long. She often brings the boxes to my front door rather than having me walk to the mailbox on the next street.
Betcha he wouldn't turn it away if offered..

We always tipped our newspaper and mail carriers at Christmas. And when I was throwing papers in Calabasas CA I got some AWESOME gifts from my customers. Of course, I had a very good route with a lot of celebrities and rich folks too, seems like every other resident was either filthy rich or a celebrity in Calabasas.. lol. Might still be that way, but I don't know if the LA Times is still doing home delivery.
I do USPS all the time, and I always ship a bag of rice to a food bank if I am close to home. If I'm not close to home, I'll ship the rice back to myself. I use a padded envelope that I can buy in bulk.
Send a package to your sister or anyone else who would either appreciate a can of black beans or not laugh too much at you for sending them.

Before leaving on a route, check books out of the local library. Mail them back to the library from out-of-town. While still out-of-town, check out books at the local library and then mail them back once home. (Many, but not all states, afford statewide borrowing privileges to residents.)

If the clerk thinks you might be sending a small book or magazine, he/she will probably try to get you a better rate by sending it a different method. Just be ready for this in case.
Dang, I was just getting into the groove of doing these shops, but I haven't seen a regular box shop posted in at least 3 weeks, maybe longer. Still some hazmat shops, but i'm not interested in those.

Is this gap of 3+ weeks part of their regular cycle?
Amy, not around here, they usually linger around until at least the first bump in pay. But in the city they are gone almost as soon as they are posted.
