Has this ever happened to you and What tips do you have for taking pics so as not to draw attention

I HATE this type of shops and avoid, unless it's a huge bonus. If caught I just tell them what I'm doing while snapping photos. On occasion the manger says you can't take pics, all the while I'm snapping photos. Never argue, just say sorry thanks.

Wait, what? Did I misunderstand or did you out yourself on a non-reveal shop?

I use this when there is no way to do this shop without being totally weird.

Me: I'm gathering data on debit/ credit cards. Do you have any fees or minimum purchase amounts?
Employee: gives whatever info
Me: thanks so much, is it OK for me to snap a picture to prove I was here? You know, gotta get that paycheck with Christmas coming up!
Employee: sure

(I've done LOTS of these & every employee has been totally cool with it)
The best tip I can give for taking a covert photo is just take the shot(s) and don't waste 3 seconds drawing attention by trying to focus the picture. I can take 3 or more shots in one second, and that gives me at least a 67% probability of getting the one perfect shot I need. Surely you can distract an employee's eyes for a second. You might also have luck with burst shots if your smartphone has that option. Of course, you should practice at home first.

I did with a gas station shop before they changed the guidelines so you didn't need as many photos. The manager followed me outside and badgered me about why I was taking photos. I eventually told him I was mystery shopping the store and he had just failed completely. The guidelines said I could reveal myself if need be.
I love it!
On some outdoor covert photo mystery shops, such as the fast foor drive-thru shops, the client will allow you to take photos while sitting in your car. I always keep my driver side car window and my windshield clean so I can shoot through the window. That's what tinted windows were made for, right? Make sure to put the camera close to the glass to avoid glare.
