Question for people who are smarter than me, which means if your reading this, you are free to answer! If you are paid mileage for some shops but not paid the IRS equivalent, can you claim the unpaid amount? Thanks and Happy New Years!

On this forum years ago, I read to take a picture of your odometer first of each year for tax reasons. I have been doing it since, and it has helped so much!

I just schedule an oil change for the end of Dec/ beginning of Jan... start the year with a fresh oil change and the mileage is recorded on the work order (and the oil change is either a shop or tax deductible!)
The oil change would only be tax deductible if you are not deducting mileage. You can deduct either mileage or actual auto expenses, but not both.

You're right... I think maybe it's always allowed me as my husband has to travel for work (w-2 job) and use his own vehicle. I've always entered actual expenses for this.
