Ordering on-line from a ghost kitchen?

Okay, evidently this is a thing now.

Anyone done one?

They certainly seem to pay well; $45 fee, plus $35 reimbursement. Something about a BeastBurger?

Delivery only, so I was thinking I'd go to my favorite bookstore (the bookstore cat's name is Dickens, LOL), then log on and have it delivered there.

Guidelines say the kitchen must be accepting orders. I can't tell before leaving home if they are accepting orders.

Anybody throw some light on this? While I love spending time at A to Z Books, I'm not driving 100 miles to get there JUST to go to the bookstore. And yes, I'll be doing other shops in that city, so not scheduling this one is no big loss.

The whole thing just seems so....uncertain?

These are fairly easy. If you log into one of the four food delivery services, you can find out what the ghost kitchen's hours are (I assume those are the ones you are talking about, where you choose which of the four delivery services to use).
I have never seen a ghost kitchen shops before... I am sign up with a-lot of MSC.

Are they on Sassie MSC?

The only delivery service that has ghost kitchens if I am not mistaken is Door Dash.. I know DD has Mr. Beast Burger in my area.

ETA:: I would love to do one of theses but

1) I have not seen them listed in my area

2) 99.99 % of the DD drivers do not know what a hot bag is sad smiley

The Beast burger is gross.
Even my 10yr old (who begged for it & we actually PAID for it) wasn't impressed. And Mr. Beast is pretty much his all time favorite YouTube person.
Wow a $45 fee. That would certainly make it worthwhile for me. I am pretty sure the one I did a $5 fee! I thought I would get a lot of food for $35 but that did not go far once you figured in the delivery fee and things I never would have ordered like a soft drink and dessert. Aside from that my $12-14 entree was far inferior to the one I could have made myself while I waited for the delivery person, who was very late with cold food. It really was more of a high calorie large snack than dinner.
"Are they on Sassie MSC? "

One side of the MSC is, and this shop is on the SASSIE side, and yes, it shows on PrestoInstaMap.
I definitely don't see the appeal of getting food delivered from these places, but I will take it if it's free. The cost was crazy for a couple cold sandwiches and a small side. I do feel sorry for these drivers. I don't see how they can make much profit driving all over to pick up orders and try to get them to customers before they are cold, and often having to wait for the orders to be ready. Sometimes I am at a fast casual restaurant, and I see orders sitting on the carryout shelves for the food delivery services that have been sitting there for 45 minutes.

I have also seen that..

I used to work for a delivery service and I always had a hot bag with me Inside of the restaurant even if it was for a order of Fries and two drinks.

But sadly 99.9999 % of theses drivers especially Door Dash do not know what a hot bag is or how to buy one?

Some of the time the food was ready when I arrived and other times I had to wait a couple of minutes. (depending on the time of day I went)
I have done the cookie delivery from the ghost kitchen. I will not take one for less than $15 shop pay. The cookies are not that great either.
I don't understand ghost kitchens. My son tried to explain it, but it was totally over my head. I live where deliveries are generally not possible, so it's not likely to be an issue for me..
They are online delivery only restaurants that share a kitchen with a regular restaurant. In my area, there are two that share a kitchen with Ihop. They have a very limited, overpriced menu.

I didn't have any problems placing an order, picking up the order, and doing the report for the Mr. Beast ghost kitchen. However, the food was gross, and it was a high reimbursement/low fee shop, so I was hoping for good food.
In some big cities like NYC, a ghost kitchen may have ten restaurants being serviced by the crew in one ghost kitchen. They are take-out only, no eat in or sit down service. The "ghost" name came about here because they were these cookeries hidden in unexpected, out of the way places and didn't promote themselves or the restaurants they cooked for. But lately I've noticed big banners outside some of them, promoting all the different restaurants' food you can get inside, and interior ordering stations for walk-in customers.

Uncertain is an understatement cease. There is one walking distance from me and it's on my 10-ft. pole.

Maybe I do not want to know, but kind of do...two of you above (@luckygirl0100 and @boridi) - have stated the food was gross. What do you mean? Not cooked properly, sloppy, not seasoned right, not fresh, rotten?
The two I did from the pancake restaurant were a grilled cheese that cost about $12 and a quesadilla for about the same.

The grilled cheese was way over priced. Think of something off a children's menu you can get for about $3 in some restaurants.

The quesadilla had the jalapenos all piled up in one place which made that part almost inedible, and I like spicy food. Again way overpriced for what you get.

The online picture shows them oozy with ingredients. One of the pictures you have to take is of the side view after cutting it in half. I could hardly see the ingredients.
I did a Mr. Beast about a year ago. The fries were cold. The burger was a mess. I would certainly not order from Mr. Beast on my own dime

Quality was poor.
I prefer grass fed beef, and 5 guys is the 'lowest' quality beef I will eat. This was basically McDonald's quality.

I did one at a GK called Thrilled Cheese, and yeah, the fries were cold and soggy and the grilled cheese bread was barely toasted and not buttery at all.

I did one for a quesadilla place called Super Mega Dilla and it wasn't half bad.
Thank you all for posting your experiences with various ghost kitchens. I kept getting the MS offers and wondered about them. I think I will pass. To me, I think a temporary and/or shared kitchens could invite a mixture of food safety integrity as one could blame another, etc.

The employees are the same. Basically it's like IHOP has multiple menus but instead of a menu it's an entire business.

I have never received any emails for any ghost kitchen shops.
They seem to have come and gone just as quickly in my area. I took a few assignments, and I'd take them again. Sometimes, as mystery shoppers, we like to dream that we are reaping the rewards of "free," no strings attached whatever. However, in my area, it was pretty clear that they were new businesses that had some kinks that needed to be worked out, and they really did need some serious and honest feedback on what the customers were experiencing. I'd love to see how they were doing now. I can't remember which now, but one of them had one of the absolute best cookies I ever put in my mouth, and I sure do love a good cookie.

They were e-mailed or posted as either restaurant or delivery shops, not ghost kitchens.

I would do the two I did before again. The food was so so and overpriced, but it was a delivery shop I could do without leaving the house.
I have done both Thrilled Cheese and Super Mega Dilla delivery shops. Both are ghost kitchens inside IHOP. IHOP talks about these brands as being good for their business. You can read about them here: [www.restaurantdive.com] As others have said, they were both overpriced and under-delicious.

Based on the food I have received and the prices charged, I couldn't imagine the places lasting more than a few weeks.

They are listed on the MS companies' jobs boards as pick up or delivery shops. One company that takes a close look at restaurants will list the address and point out on the board that the location is a ghost kitchen.
