Scheduler seems upset that I am taking a break from shopping for the summer

I am taking a break from shopping for the summer to do some traveling, have some long overdue home repairs done and just relax. One scheduler seems to assign me phone shops without my asking for them- they just appear. I did the one assigned then wrote and asked her not to assign me anymore as I am taking off as of right now. I am not an employee so I can take off when I want. She wrote back- oh no, can you just do a few more like today or tomorrow or this week before you take off? Well, I did the one she assigned me without my asking and I have commitments with contractors to come to my home, etc to give me estimates and hopefully get the work started so no I cannot. The phone shops she assigns me usually involve leaving a message and having to be home to get the return call or else playing phone tag so I am not interested. I nearly fell running for the phone on the one I did yesterday as I was outside talking with a contractor when I heard the phone ringing and just am not into doing that. I am flattered that she likes my work so much but also think it is a bit rude to expect me to drop everything when I said I am now off until the end of August. Has anyone else had such an experience with a scheduler?

You probably just made her life easier by being reliable and getting them done, so she's probably disappointed she'll have to find other shoppers. I wouldn't worry about it too much - you are entitled to take off or take a break.
Unless you have give pre acceptance to a scheduler, they arent suppose to assign shops without asking. Depending on area, shops may not be picked up quickly or at all so there are some who reach out and ask of you'll be willing to take x amount of a parricular shop for the next x timeframe. You can accept or decline. They cant force you, as like mentioned, you are an IC not employee. It can't be held against you either. Just say you cant. Otherwise you then are responsible should you not be able to complete or perform correctly
I have never had a job just assigned to me.
So, I've never had to mention that I'm taking a break. I just don't select jobs and take breaks all the time.
I don't think she was rude from what you described. I think she was hoping you would relent and help her out.

By not saying anything previously when she assigned you shops that you did not ask for, you may have given her the wrong idea of how far you would go to make her life easier.
