Cell Phones

How much do some of you pay for your cell phone every month? I've done a number of cell phone shops, for various companies...and I'm shocked at the price of the plans any more, but even more shocked when the sales reps that flat out state or act like "well everyone pays almost $100 a month". As if that's what everyone else is suckered into and why am I shocked? It's the cool thing to do.

This girl doesn't pay that much! I feel like my grandma, and nothing wrong with that, but anymore I want a cell phone. One to make calls and I shouldn't pay more than $30-40 a month for it. Granted, I have an iPhone now and it more than pays for itself each month with how much it helps out towards my shops, but I pay between $55-65, depending if I have texting or not.

I'm shocked. How did it become reasonable to pay so much a month towards a cell phone?

My reaction is very much the same. We have a family plan on phones and a rate low enough that short of going to purchasing minutes in advance we can't beat it. I got it primarily because I was going to be on the road so much shopping and if/when I stop shopping, the phone will be turned off. I don't text, email, surf the web or any of that stuff with it. I can take photos and upload them to my computer (with a cable) and I can make and receive phone calls. And woo hoo, it even has voice mail--which standardly gets abused with a multitude of unwanted solicitations and scams.
My phone is about $6.00 a month. It doesn't do any tricks, but it makes and receives calls like a champ. I had an expensive plan when I was working full time and traveling on the road.

When I retired, I really didn't need a cell phone except for emergencies. When my contract ended, I looked around and found out I could get a Tracphone for not much and it would serve my purposes. Eventually I started working some again, but stayed with the cheapie phone. The last time I refilled, I bought 2 years and something like 2,000 minutes or so. The two years averaged $6.00 a month and it doesn't look like I'm going to run out of minutes before I run out of calendar. Then I'll buy two more years and another pile of minutes. I can always add more minutes if needed.

If you want aps and tricks, this phone won't work for you. My cell phone is a Motorola V170. I know it's ancient but it still goes dingaling. As another option, I can buy a higher tech phone and use the Tracphone sim card.

I figure I'm saving $93.00 a month, $1,116 a year, $11,160 in ten years over the $100.00 a month plans. If I decide I need a more expensive phone for work, I'll get it. But so far, so good. I get by. Money in the bank.

I have an HTC Sensation....don't even ask about my rates. I use it alot. I use it for everything.
I use "StraightTalk" sold by Wmart; $45 mo unlimited bells and whistles or $30 mo for 1000 min/tx/web. I do use the text and calls but haven't learned the web (gotta do that soon). Recently they offered 3 mo unlimited for $128. Works !
After MSing cell phones for almost 5 years, I came to the conclusion that almost all retailers offer similar plans and similar phones. It comes down to personal preference. I finally caved in and got a phone with a plan. I pay $30 and have unlimited texting, unlimited incoming calls, 250 minutes outgoing, evening and weekends free. I do not have call display or voice mail. I do not have a data plan since I'm on the internet enough at home. I have a basic LG phone that does the job just fine. It can take pictures, video and could go on the internet if I wanted it to.
I have been with Tmobile for at least 12 years. My cell phone bill is usually 172.00 a month. I have a stick, and 4 separate numbers though. In December it will drop to 129.00 month.
I travel with my regular 8 hour job, so my data plan justifies itself when I can't get on the internet. It also helps me gps those tiny hidden clinics I go and audit at. I use it for Yelp, too.
We pay $136 a month, We have not had a landline for about 4 years. We have 5 phone lines on this with 3 being teen/young adult users.
I also have a tracfone and generally spend about $10 a month. Almost all tracfones come with a double minutes for life plan so if you don't need a lot of bells and whistles it's the most economical cell phone plan I've seen. Just hope you never have to call them for support as you may be very frustrated.
