Pass it on!

I have to share this story.

Last Saturday, I stopped at Walgreens to get a few things on my way home. The customer waiting in line in front of me was having this conversation with another guy who was trying to get brake fluid for his car. I had happen to see this guy walking to the Walgreens as I was driving up (the guy looking for the brake fluid). The other guy directed him to the Dollar store down the street. I didn't think anything of it.

After I paid for my items and started to drive home, I saw the guy looking for the brake fluid walking down the street – IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. He was going down the wrong street, not headed to the Dollar store. I saw it too late to pull over, so I just turned down the next street intending to do a circle, so I could tell the guy he was walking in the wrong direction. Part of my circle took me right in front of the Dollar store. I ran in and bought the brake fluid, thinking I might be able to still catch the guy walking. I went back on my original route and sure enough, I saw him walking back – of course, he did not find the Dollar store. I pulled over, called out to him and he came over to my car. I handed him the brake fluid and said, “Is this what you were looking for?” He was in utter shock (he did not notice me in Walgreens, because he was talking to the other guy). He said, “Yes!”. He then tried to give me some money. (I never intended to share this story – I try to do good deeds every so often.) I told him, “ I don't want any money. If you get a chance to do something good for someone else, just pass it on!” He seemed shocked and asked my name. I told him mine and he gave me his and shook my hand. Then he said, “God Bless you!”, and that was the end of it.

I had a long driving day today....this is a week later. I take a friend to see my sister and her boyfriend once a month. They are a little over an hour a way, but we do our morning walk (1.5-2 hours), before we pick them up for breakfast. Basically, I did a lot of driving today...a lot. I dropped my friend off at 4:30 PM and I was exhausted. A few miles from home, I hear this horrific dragging noise from the back of my car. I pull over to the side of the road and put my hazards on. I go out and look and my muffler was hanging on the ground. Two guys immediately come over, I could not even count to five. One of them instructs me to slowly pull into the parking lot I was next to and get out of the street. I do that. The one guy comes over to my car looks underneath and determines I have just lost a bolt to the strap holding my muffler up and asks me if I have a coat hanger or something like that. I don't. The other guy, who is on a bike, says, “Wait, I have a bungee cord.” These two guys did not know each other, but just happened to be in the same area when this happened. He gives me the bungee cord and with the help of the other guy, we get my muffler back up off the ground. He tells me my exhaust and muffler look fine, I will just need to get a new bolt for the strap.

I thank them over and over again. I ask the guy how much he wanted for the bungee, since I am taking it with me. He says, “I don't want anything. People should help each other when they can. If you get a chance to do something for someone else, pass it on.” Now, I was in shock. I thanked him, got in my car and as I drove away, he said, “God Bless you!”

This bolt could have broken on the freeway or somewhere else where I would have completely lost my whole exhaust system. I happened in a place where there were strangers ready to help me in a moments notice.

If you get a chance to do something nice for someone, DO IT! Pass it on!

Beautiful story...so glad you shared...the smallest kindness does not go unnoticed...
That was a really nice story...thanks for sharing it. smiling smiley
One good turn deserves another. Two good turns in a week, and you're the common element? Sounds like you must be living right!
Nice story, Karma giving back always returns to you.

Live consciously....
I don't even care if someone thanks me for some little random nicety I do for them. It makes me feel better about myself that I noticed what they needed and did it.
Very wonderful you and others out there are like this. Sometimes the world seems to get in a hurry and get a bit of an attitude with our neighbors instead of understanding one another. Instead of driving passed the guy looking for break fluid and saying....you sorry sap, you instead took care of his needs. Instead of strangers staring at you telling you your exhaust is going to be damaged, they helped you...

Everyone should stop in their moment of hurry and help, offer kind words, assistance if you can, or just a prayer when needed.

Thank you for being kind.
Awesome story! It's funny, sometimes I see the world very cynically (I try to do "good" myself-- I try to put as much good into the world as I can..) and it seems like so many people are always in it for themselves. You walk into a store, hold the door and twenty people will pile through and not even look at you. No thank yous! No, "here, let me hold the door," just... take take take. It's the same way for a lot of things. But then, there are good people like you out there, doing such sweet things and not even a few seconds into a problem you have and there are two other strangers there helping you out, as well. The funny part is, I think it's easy to become isolated and to think, "Everyone is just out there for themselves." I know in a lot of circles I travel in, people always talk about "entitlement", anymore. But when it really comes down to it, it's more likely that good people will come along to help, than not.

I love stories like these. I'm so glad you shared!

Sending the best,

Jen
Thanks for sharing your story...love it!!
As for passing it on, sometimes when I am doing a route of gas shops, I over
extimate the capicty of my tank. I will sometimes "buy" gas for someone that is coming into the station. It gives them a plesant suprise and gives me a receipt. And if it looks like someone that really needs the gas, it makes me feel good.
