Laptop Help....Plz!

Hi guys,

Thought I would have a good chance here to find help. The other day, I turned on my laptop and my Q, W, E, R, and U keys no longer work. I have had to hook up a keyboard to my laptop which is a huge inconvenience! I have taken the keys off and cleaned under them and I have shut down computer, pulled the battery off and held power button in to drain. Still didn't help.

Before this happened, on certain websites my H, V, C keys wouldn't work, but they always came back and always worked in Word. This new anomaly occurred and they QWERU keys are not working any where or no matter how many times I restart my computer. Big pain in the butt!

I have a Dell Inspiron, running Windows 7. I haven't spilled anything on it. Just stopped working.

Thaks in advance to any and all help anyone can give me. smiling smiley

Sounds like a bad keyboard to me. It can also be the connection between the keyboard and motherboard got loose.

Both problems are pretty easy to fix. I would first try to find out if it's a bad connection.

If playing with the connection doesn't work, go on eBay, get a replacement, and just replace the keyboard.

Do some searches. There are step-by-step instructions and even videos out there for free.

If you're not comfortable doing this kind of thing, find someone who is. He/she does not even need to know much about computers. Just treat the laptop and parts gently. Don't force anything. Follow the instructions.

Good luck.

There is a company does have shops that involve computer repair. Not sure if there are any in your area.
My Dell laptop skips around when Im typing reports. The cursor will move in between sentences on different lines. Its only 6 months old, will have to call Dell for repair.
Do a search for Windows 7 (is that what you have?) and skipping touchpad cursors. Been there, done that, and am experiencing that again with my current Dell laptop (though in a much milder form than my previous Dell laptop). I've bought a couple of USB mice as back up.

Please post here if you find out how to fix the problem. Thanks.
I have not had that particular problem. But recently had some others including viruses. I have a Samsung. I took it to my local repair shop. So much cleaner and faster and much better than messing around with it. $80, Do not go to Best Buy.
After "talking" to you guys and some friends on Facebook, I decided I needed to just buy a new keyboard. I found one on Ebay for $15. I watched Youtube tutorials about how to replace it (very, very easy). I will let you know when I get the new one and replace it, but seems like the only way I could fix it.
Yay! Have fun with it. It should be very easy. =D

I remember the first time I replaced a laptop screen. It felt so good after I did it. I did it several more times with different laptops and got faster each time. That felt even better.

You can do it!
Skipping curser problem - I've had that one and it drove me crazy especially when doing reports. My favorite computer guru figured out it was because I was using a mouse and my laptop has a touchpad - this kind of equals mouse vs. touchpad war. He could not find anywhere in the software or OS to turn off the touchpad so I could work with my mouse. Ended up going on line to one of those computer forums and found a free app that he downloaded. Since then I've had no other problems.

And, BTW, my laptop is a Dell, too.

I called this problem the "Dancing Curser" - LOL
which app is that? i bought my dell on ebay for $125 ... and it has that problem... im assuming its a hardware prob because it does the same with my wireless mouse...

great deal though i have every software suite known to man... and some i have no idea what they are... but hey $125 shipped! SWEET!!

my econ teach in highschool said that "a new car is a luxury, a used car is a necessity." i believe the same is true for tech... as it comes outdated within a year there is really no point in getting it new...
