For Dog and Stephen King lovers

I am currently reading Gerald's Game. I have a question to ask anyone who has read it already, and if you haven't but intend to:

SPOILER ALERT!

Okay, so I am to the point where she is handcuffed to the bed and the dog enters the house smelling Gerald's blood. If you have read any of my posts here you know I am a huge dog lover. I can't stand to watch a movie or read a book where a dog dies or gets hurt. So, if this dog is going to get adopted by a loving family and live out the rest of his days in bliss, I'm happy. If it eats its fill and goes away, I can deal with that. BUT if this poor dog who was already abandoned and starving gets hurt any more or is killed, I don't think I want to read any more. Dean Koontz would NEVER let his dogs come to any real harm.

So tell me. Should I continue reading the book or just stop now and choose another book from my shelves?

No spoilers, please, if you say I should continue (in fact if I shouldn't I don't want to know why either).

Just yeah or nay?
