What do you think of genetically modified organisms and why?
I'm for them for many reasons, but I'll give my top 3:
1. Reduced pesticides - some plants have natural pesticides. Those genes can be be spliced into organisms that lack this. Over time, they grow to resist pests. This is significant for industrial growers and has a widespread impact for air, water and waste.
2. Hearty plants - strong plants can withstand more extreme temperatures, low light and water, and pummeling (can't think of the scientific word). This results in longer storage and transportation times. This allows produce to be sent to areas that previously would not have access, and a lower replacement rate fr those who do have access.
3. If a virus or some other epic incident wipes out an entire species of plant, genetic modification can bring them back into existence.
So what are your thoughts?
