Wal Mart Nail Salon

I was in Wal Mart picking up some odds and ends before my stop to get my nails done at a nearby strip mall. On my way out, I saw the in-house nail salon. It was less expensive than my usual place, so I decided to give it a try.

You know the saying "You get what you pay for?"

I asked for a pedicure, eyebrow wax and manicure.

The OPI polishes were rock solid and had to be diluted with acetone. The tech who did my toes did a horrible job of removing the cuticles and trimming my nails. She also pierced my skin with her claws on more than one occasion. Basically, my feet look like I did them myself or worse.

My eyebrows also looked like I did them myself. There were so many coarse, stray hairs after the wax, I had her redo it. After the third try with the same bad results, I told her to stop. I nixed the manicure, paid and left.

Has anyone else had experiences with these awful places?

So you paid for a crappy job, so that you could paid for a "better" job, that was a SHOPconfused smileyconfused smiley Did you go to your shop?
I do believe you get what you pay for, and Wal-Mart hires the worst. I have had luck on Groupon getting a Gel manicure for 10 bucks that was superior to anything before, try it.

sojo, she referred to the more expensive place as her "stop" not her "shop." winking smiley

There was a time when I probably would have paid the first salon. These days the only way they would have gotten money out of me after a hack job like that would have been to pry it out of my cold, dead hands.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
It wasn't a shop. That's why I posted it here.

Thanks Irene! I never thought to look at Groupon and Retail Me Not for salon services!

I would be very careful who gave me a manicure and pedicure. You can get permanent damage and funguses.
I guess I would never have all those treatments done if I did not know there work. I would also report them to the health department in whatever town they are in. I get a manicure and pedicure for $30 on Wednesdays only in my town. I have had the same pedicurist for 10 years.
Shopper, I'm not going to report them to the health department because they did a bad job. If I noticed anything unsanitary, I would have left..

Although you hear of that happening,(fungus). The Health Dept. checks them carefully these days.
My Groupon Gel Mani was done by a gorgeous spa in town, and gel lasts 3 weeks,10 bucks, regularly 25.00.
I would have paid 25.00 in the old days, not today, boohoo.

Irene, I get my fingernails buffed. I get polish on special occasions, and I have never gotten fake nails.

I don't get fake nails, gel is a certain polish that lat longer, but you don't need full manicure.

I know what gel is. I was explaining my manicure preferences.

Some of my friends get gel manicures. A few weeks later, I see them picking and peeling the polish off. It's very unappealing!

The polish is hard to get off, impossible, you have to go back in three weeks and for 5$ they take it off.
Whatever floats your boat...smiling smiley

Yeah, I'll stick with the buff or the Sally Hansen Salon Manicure.

How are you doing? I was on the phone with my friend in Duarte when the fire started.
