IRS is Filing a Lawsuit Against Me

I have been called about 3 times in the past few weeks with this same "scam" robo call. Is there anyway to put a stop to it?

3 approaches: passive, active and vindictive.

Passive: just hang up and try to call block if the calls are coming from the same number.
Active: Notify your local police. Many now have scam units and this scam has gotten quite a bit of attention lately. Alternatively, when you recognize what the call is, just announce, "This call is being recorded for submission to the [your county name] District Prosecutor."
Vindictive: Get out your police whistle and keep it near the phone. Keep speaking softer and softer to make them strain to hear you and then give a mighty whistle blast into the phone.
Have you checked out the NOMOROBO program yet??? It's TOTALLY FREE!! You go to Nomorobo.com, enter your telephone carrier, your zip code, and then it tells you if it's available in your area. If it is, there are instructions on the computer on how to get it working on your phone line. Hubby & I are SOOooooo happy with it!! It filters out about 90% of all scams, political calls, junk calls, etc. You hear the phone ring one time....then if it's a scam....no more rings!!! It goes to some recording that says the caller has to push such-and-such a number to get through. And since most robo calls are not done by a live person, but by a computer, it never gets past that! Phew!! What a blessing it has been!! And to think it's FREE!! Might be worth your checking out.

That works on landlines and cell phones both?

It works on landlines and is totally free for landlines. NOMOROBO has just started offering this same service for cell phones in limited areas. HOWEVER..........after a 30 day free trial, they want to charge $4.95/month...nope, not for me. My cell phone allows me to block up to 1,000 numbers for free!! If there's no charge for the landline program, I don't understand why the charge for cell phones. However, the cell phone part is new, and maybe charging a fee for cell phone NOMOROBO won't pan out. But it's GREAT for the landline!! (I'm showing my age, I know!)
No, I'm cool with the landline. I am an old lady who still has one smiling smiley And that's actually my main concern!!! How will this pan out with the flippin' election? Does that count?

There is a 4th: Ask the caller to hold on for a minute and put the phone down. Pick it up after a while and tell him you will be right with them. Repeat after a minute or so. Repeat again if needed but by this time the he probably got frustrated and hung up. There is a certain amount of satisfaction knowing you got the caller to hang up. He may even put you on a "don't call again list".
Oh no! I discovered that I am already registered on the "Do not call list." But why do I keep receiving these calls everyday?
NOMOROBO does not cover my area Today I got 5 ROBO calls and I was so frustrated.
It's so sad I even have a landline...I check the machine every few days and hit delete 4 out of 7.
No, I didn't report it. And I'd love to do some of the things Flash has suggested but because it's a recording I can't interact with anyone. I know some people have thought it was real. Fortunately for me I'm in debt to only my CU for my recently purchased car so hearing how the IRS is going to file a lawsuit against me doesn't scare me. If the IRS did file a lawsuit maybe I could get enough out of them to pay off my car. ;-)
Messages such as that usually have a number you are to press to speak with a person. That is when you have your 'fun'.

NOMOROBO blocks about 90% of the political calls we get....I can tell because the Caller ID still shows but the call stops after 1 ring and goes to NOMOROBO!

Sorry, calicakes, that it doesn't work where you are...that is a bummer! BUT......AT&T SHOULD have phone features where you can block up to 20 numbers for free...it's not a lot, but it might help!

I'm on a roll lately. I feel much better now.

You might be on the wrong forum.
Yeah. Sorry. I meant to post in the "Politically Incorrect and I do not Apologize" Forums grinning smiley

My bad.
I call the number back and mess with them and waste their time. I also waste my time sadly. Often they end up swearing at me and hanging up. It's fun to keep playing stupid and act scared and irritate them by being so stupid. I do 'tis for the microsoft calls too.
It also helps to have a bunch of ring.to numbers to call them from so I don't call from my cell phone.
