Another great face of Hollywood has left us. Carrie Fisher has moved on. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. I enjoyed the characters Carrie played.

I'm watching the news...such a shame, just 60 years old. She wrote and was out of the limelight but always loved. I saw her Mother Debbie Reynolds in a small musical she did in No. Hollywood at a small playhouse a couple years ago. What a family, very sad...

This year has sucked in general. I'm still upset over David Bowie and Prince dying! George Michael also just died. He was another wonderful musician.
When is something going to happen to kill really trashy, bad celebrities and musicians like Kanye West, the Kardashians, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, etc? They're just taking up space and airwaves.
2017, come on! Make some magic happen!

I read 33 famous people died this year from Political, Musicians, Celebrities and sports.to name and honor a few:
Carrie Fisher, Natalie Cole, Florence Henderson, Prince, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Patty Duke, Gary Shandling, Gary Marshall, George Michael, Morey Safer to name a few. I don't wish anyone death, you have the choice not to see or listen to them.

Hollywood has music from "Star Wars" piped into the streets.

Amazing family. She filmed a Star Wars that just completed filming this summer so we will see her once more on the big screen. In July, production was completed on Star Wars: Episode VIII, which will be released on December 15th, 2017, so we will see Carrie Fisher in that final episode when it is released to theaters next year. She was scheduled to be in Star Wars: Episode IX, but it is still in pre-production and will not start filming until 2017. I guess either they will recast Carrie Fisher's role of Leia Organa or cut her out of that episode.

There's lot of evidence physically and psychologically that tragedy can kill us. Broken heart deaths exist. It's tragic and sad. Lots of celebrities passing. I keep seeing a trending on social media to lock Betty White in a padded room until the new year. :/

I believe when you lose the will to live, it's over. The death of a child would be impossible to deal with, not fair.
Carrie's poor daughter, my heart goes out to her. My wonderful Father passed away when I was 21, and I never got over it, miss him more as time goes by.

2016 has been a terrible year. Besides the brave service men and women who died in the line of duty, I'll be remembering Philando Castile, Alton Sterling, Keith Lamont Scott, Terance Crutcher, Tamir Rice, Peter Matthew Gaines, and dozens of other who lost their lives needlessly this last year.

How do you mend a broken heart???????? I hope Debbie's other children and Carries children can survive this double tragedy. This is a situation where one needs to be STRONG and PEACEFUL. My prayers and blessing is what I wish for this family. Be strong.

There are quotes that say time heals all wounds, but the reality is that time only teaches and allows us "time" to learn to deal, cope, and hide the impact of our feelings. Time doesn't heal death wounds or loss wounds, but instead lets us figure out ways to "healthfully" sort through it. Healthful may full and well include two years of unending tears and weird eating patterns. We all cope differently.

My death & loss professor told us that he tries to use the rule of 5-10-5 for death when doing client evaluations. These are not my personal beliefs but he said that if it is a person losing a parent or spouse, 5 years should be enough for them to regain reality. If it's a person losing an older child, he says he tries to give it 10 years, and he says for all other losses he usually gives about 5 years of grief before deciding there may be worry. Now, I dunno about all of that but it was just his reasoning and he meant that in that people were often sent to him for evaluation of not coping effectively. Some people think you should be healed up in 12 months after losing your 60 year spouse He felt that people were normal in any means they grieved for about 5 years. Take all that with a grain of salt or sand-- we all grieve differently. My mother still grieves her twins passing of 16 years ago, and sometimes the grief and coping mechanisms is troublesome to me

If your heart is too broken, which often happens in elderly couples or elderly who lose a child/loved one, perhaps you pass on too

My daughter told me you can die of a broken heart...it is called "Cardiomyopathy" extreme stress brings it on and the heart reacts by you not able to breathe. This alone with losing the will to live..we just saw it happen.
They will be together, the power of a loving Mother. Loss is a powerful emotion, not to be dismissed. My heart
goes out to her son and Grand daughter. I doubt one really recovers, life just goes on, but your life is changed. Same with a divorce, but at lease growth prevails.

While this is all very sad and I do believe that someone can die from grief, the definition of cardiomyopathy is not a broken heart.

Look, I have a medical transcriprionist degree, a massage therapy degree, and I'm working on my degree in health information management. I've taken anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and a myriad of other medical-related classes as well as worked with doctors and other health professionals while completing my practicum. Not to mention the thousands of case files I've transcribed. That doesn't make me an expert on anything but I know my medical terminology very well. And I don't like to debate or fight. But it's incorrect information to write that myocardiopathy is a broken heart. I do agree the heart can undergo trauma from grief. Though Debbie Reynolds died of a stroke I'm sure grief was involved with it.

This is not a debatable issue but what the likely cause of death is called ----->"stress-induced cardiomyopathy". While cardiomyopathy is a disease or disorder of the heart muscle of an unknown cause. The disorder brought on stroke like symptoms in Miss Reynolds from the stress of losing a child. There are a number of factors that can bring about a heart attack/stroke.

You are right, you transcribe (to make an exact copy of) and have a degree in (making copies of "something" does not make you an expert in terminology. I am a Nurse in a Neurology department in a hospital and dealing with our cardiac patients, cardiomyopathy comes up a lot. While Ms Reynolds did not have cardiac issues, her death was perceived as a cardiac issue. A broken heart is a broken heart. Some live with it and some die from it.

The tasteless post wishing death on celebrities the poster perceives to be "trashy" and "bad" has been thumbed and is no longer visible. Thankfully, only one other poster quoted that post. It would be nice if that poster deleted the quote in her post. Of course, it looks like that poster's post is also being thumbed, probably only because she quoted the offensive post. Her post is much lighter.

It was not a problem you created, Dare. My point was simply that the post made by someone else was offensive. Apparently, many other forum members found it offensive as well, sharing your opinion. They gave the post a thumbs-down to make it invisible. Since your post quoted it, however, it was still visible, so forum members were thumbing your post to get rid of the quote, even though your post was right on target. I agreed totally with you.

By the way, cardiomyopathy is not always from an unknown cause. That's idiopathic cardiomyopathy. My grandpa had congenital cardiomyopathy that my uncle Richard also had.

I don't know why all the debate about a cause of death for someone that none of us personally knew. We were not there at the time of death. We have not talked to the doctors. Until an autopsy is done, none of us know the real reason for these deaths. Speculating is just a waste of time.

The " broken heart " cardiomyopathy is called Takasuko- it means broken heart in Japanese. It is an outpouching of the Left ventricle thought to be in response to stress such as loss of a loved one.

Yes. I know. But the point was that it is not the definition of cardiomyopathy.
