Texas Shoppers & the weather for the next 2 days

Right now the predictions for the freeze and maybe a hard freeze are south of San Antonio.

Take the time to prepare your home today, so you might be able to avoid unnecessary bills.

I live in the country and I do own a huge water tank as a back up for my well water.

My precautions are as follows:
Turn off the sub-pump if you have a water tank.
Slow drip every faucet.
Wrap pipes if you can find the insulation and have the time.

My well house also has heat lamps, but not sure if they really help. The pump house has insulated walls, but the roof isn't.

Do not close your garage door if cold weather can freeze the electric lines that head into your home.

If I'm being stupid by posting this information, let the comments fly. I have a huge day tomorrow that cannot be rescheduled under any circumstances. I've tried to be as proactive as I can with the pipes at my house.

Great advice!

Meanwhile, I'm leaving the warmth of AZ to go to Jackson, MS and Mobile, AL to do some half marathons on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Right now it's forecast for 20º at the start in Jackson and 30º at the start in Mobile. Oh boy!

Shopping central Arizona.
LOL hard freeze. Must be nice (that would be a warm front here!!). I just went to the grocery store on my lunch hour and the car said it is 8 degrees.

Shopping across Indiana but mostly around Indianapolis.
I used to live in MI. I remember praying for snow so it would warm up to 33 degrees.

We only slow drip the faucets when the temp is quite a bit below zero up here.. lol I was about 13 when I left work... I'm in MI... Never worried about the electric lines freezing...
My daughter shut off my drip faucet and yes the heaters help. A couple hours on high and it thawed. Leave your vehicle doors unlocked if you don't have a garage, experienced that problem briefly. I have never had problems with garage door electrical lines freezing in other houses, sure miss the garage.

Sure did. It was for the best. It was rough out there. Was supposed to fly into Jackson but flights were cancelled. Changed to Mobile and drove up. Found out it was cancelled just as we reached Jackson. Roads in Jackson were iced over...no way it could have been run.

Mobile is on though...start line is now 25* with a real feel of 17*.

We have a kerosene heater and kerosene bought up just in case. We also have some fire wood bought up. My place is running on full electric heat but we've discussed working on that since both of us know what it's like to grow up in coal and wood heated homes. I have a room for storage that has at least a dozen military blankets, quilts, and thermals too. I've got a slow drip going on all the faucets right now. It's a balmy 6 degrees outside with about five or six inches of snow out there. I'm going to shop a bit tomorrow and earn them dollars though grinning smiley

When I first moved to TX, I couldn't figure out what the hullabaloo was about but listened and took the precautions. Still lived in San Antonio and homes had pipes burst, One road the water pipes that supply water to homes burst.

Most homes do not have the insulation required for the water lines because it's a rare event.

I live in the hills and because of the topography it can get significantly colder. I can't prove it but the thermometer was below 20 the last 3 mornings. Still not that bad, since I used to live in the mid west and upper northeast part of the country. Windchill was between 8 and 11 degrees.

This is the only time of year, I appreciate my pets sleeping on my body.

But, yeah it does sound ridiculous compared to other areas of the country where this is just part of winter.
