Pizza Hut, Dominos, or Papa John's for you? Not a mystery shop question...

Which big chain pizza place do you like best?

I'd rank mine as:

1. Pizza Hut (pan pizza crust!!!)
2. Papa John's (that tangy yummy sauce)
3. Dominos (nothing special, but they are cheap and taste okay)

I'm also talking about them on a personal taste level and not regarding mystery shop experiences! Which place's pizza do you like the best in terms of taste? smiling smiley

pizza hut
papa john's
dominoes

Though I eat papa johns a lot more simply because they are almost always offering 50 % off and have a decent point system for free pizzas
I'm from a city where pizza is a big deal, so I'm pretty much a pizza snob. I really don't like any of those but if I had to choose it would be pizza hut, their stuffed crust pan pizza's are tolerable.

Since I started mystery shopping, I've picked up Papa John shops. I only do them once a month. Now that scandal has returned, I'll make sure to schedule pizza on a thursday night.

Actually, I'm the same way with certain foods. We had the best burgers and Asian food when I lived in California, so here in my smaller city (still big by many people's standards, though) I always tell people that the burgers and Asian food are just so-so to flat out not very good. We had In-N-Out in CA and the authentic Asian cuisine was phenomenal and cheap. Here, the best they have is Five Guys, which I'd rank below In-N-Out, despite them costing more and the Asian food is often anything but authentic.

Never lived in pizza country, so I don't know what good pizza tastes like. smiling smiley

None of the above, when I have my monthly pizza, it's usually at Mod's (job), healthy and get thin crusty dough, and veggies, very good and no weight gain. I also like a slice at Whole Foods with their salad while working, perfect.

The whole foods near my job consistently burns their pizzas. As a vegetarian I cringe everytime I look at the dried out cheese pizza.

After doing the MOD and Blaze pizza shops, their menu items are identical. They're both okay but it will say that Papa John's will do in a pinch.

Blaze is in L.A., Mod is two miles from me, my friend does Blaze and they are basically the same. My problem with Pappa Johns is there too large, being alone I don't want to spend the money or have that in the house.
Mod is a perfect size for one.....for families PJ is good, for me, not so good.

Too bad, ours is great, cheese is soft and melted, no burns...surprised at WF. made fresh daily, dried out, NOT!!

I'm still waiting for a Mod shop to fit into my schedule.... but I definitely agree with you about Whole Foods pizza.

I am not a huge fan of the big three, but Papa Johns pays my family to eat it through my shops every week, just about. My son and husband would prefer Pizza Hut but I can't say I've ever done a shop for them. And I would prefer Domino's only in the last decade or so. When I was a kid, the stuff tasted similar to Little Caesar's pizza - like the box it comes in! I have done the competitor shops for Domino's but have never received a fee for doing one so Papa John's it continues to be.

Doing what I can to enhance the life of my family! I LOVE what I do smiling smiley
Pizza Hut, then Papa Johns, then Domino's. Lately I've been eating Marco's which is pretty good.
Totally not pizza snob. Little ceasers deep dish. Or the hot n ready.

Pizza hut stuffed crust is expensive but much better than tolerable

Another big city pizza snob here. I do not do chain pizza joints IRL. If I do a pizza shop, I give the pizza away to a needy person(s).
Totally agree with the pizza snobs. I love the wood fired, thin and crispy pizzas from local joints and when I don't feel like going out it's homemade on the grill using Wolfgang Puck's dough recipe.

For political reasons, I would never patronize any of the three that OP mentioned. I would do Little Caesars which offers a reasonable product at a fair price and is not worthy of boycott. But mostly, I tend to support local joints which offer a better product.
The Whole Foods by me does the same thing ! There is one worker who burns the crust / doesn't clean the pizza oven and the bottom of the pizza is dark. I don't buy the pizza when she makes it.

Other than that I think they make great pizza. Very healthy ingredients and toppings.

I personally don't like Little Caesar's either. I think when I was a kid I enjoyed their pizza, because I hadn't tried many others. But now I personally rank them at the bottom of the big chain pizza places.

It's 1. P-Hut, 2. Papa J's, 3. Domino's, and 4. Little C's. Although, I would never eat Little C's even for free.

But I would still eat 1 through 3. And I agree that Domino's wasn't very good many years ago. They've only recently gotten better and good enough or me to actually eat. smiling smiley

My local "upscale" grocery store has one of those wood oven things and they frequently seem to burn the bottom of my pizza too! And, like your case, we get all that weird black stuff on it. I dunno if it's more of the burned crust or some dirty stuff from the grill (maybe just burned dirty stuff).

I remember that my middle school teacher said that eating burned foods puts carcinogens in your body, which if built up over time can cause cancer. Those carcinogens NEVER leave and just build up. So she always told us to scrape off the burned toast areas and not to eat burned foods.

That's one positive about the big chain stores. They don't seem to ever burn my pizza!!! smiling smiley
Pizza Hut, Domino's, then Papa John's, if those were my only choices. But I too prefer a local pizzeria.
There are some really beautiful stories about the founder of little ceasers now that he passed recently

Put me in the Pizza snob category. But then I am really spoiled as the best pizza, IMHO is made in Brooklyn with the City and Queens close runners up. Out here in the suburbs the pizza is pretty good, much better than Papa John's et al, but can 't find a local pizzeria that compares to Brooklyn. Must be the water in the lower Hudson. Can't swim in it but makes great pizza.
