security cameras

I have had people messing with my car and stealing from my garden....also stealing pots of flowers. I am interested in purchasing a camera system for the outside of my apartment. Does anyone have any companies they have used with good service and good products?

Take a look at Amazon, there are plenty of them. Type in 'best wireless security cameras' and Amazon ranks them for you. I've used Sharx before, it's a bit tricky but I like it.

I know what you're saying. I've caught people using my driveway for turnarounds and hate it !

Wireless, motion sensor LED lights are a great deterrent for me. I live in a dump, a wonderful dump but a dump nonetheless. I have dashcams, one facing front and one facing back, and an aftermarket alarm system with a hellofa' after market horn. I have 4 of the wireless motion sensor LED lights in my car too. For all of these, and a camera security system, I bought them on Amazon. Really do research because the ones where you will actually be able to see the perpetrators at night are very expensive.
Yes I have noticed..... smiling smiley I am not going to let my neighbors (live in the same bldg!! )get away with this any more tho. They got in my car and turned my headlights on ....so it drained the battery. The girl in the back stole several potted plants and the hangers... 2 hanging baskets of white allysum with vinca vines... also she stole my huge red geranium with 7 flowers on it and the basil plant with the pots. The girl in the front took many jalapenos I grew along with yellow pear tomatoes and other goodies she could get her hands on...... I was looking at her through the window. Landlords and police will do nothing cuz I have no proof. They both sell drugs and are Professional alcoholics on disability.
That's sad, really is, when people take other peoples plants. Especially food plants. Some things happen here like that, mostly family or bf/gf/neighbor squabbles but some crazy stuff too occasionally. Where I moved from nothing bad ever happened where I lived so I just tackle a problem when it occurs around here. I think the lights going on in the car, super bright LEDs, when people pass by and the dash cams are deterrents enough so that people don't mess with me and my stuff. I know it's impossible with my phone, it's a Note 5, to video in the dark. But if you ever catch them during the day, video tape them with your phone and present it to the apartment managers.
It's to the point that people will steal the gravel right out of your drive way.

Noo. Boobytraps are illegal. Especially so if they are on disability. Then it would be you getting the boot. And handing them a tidy penny to boot.

Much easier to find evidence of them selling those drugs and then reporting it. Plenty of ways to do it anonymously and much cheaper than security systems. Sorry but even if you did record them stealing your veggies or using your car all they have to say is you told them it was okay. Then its your word against theirs... and no cop with even two brain cells would touch that case.

Also mounting any sort of equipment outside your appartment leaves both you and your landlord open to privacy claims liability. Depending on the state you live in it may not even be possible as you dont own the property and other residents may not agree to having the cameras installed. Especially because they will be a new addition and someone could argue that its not in their rental lease agreement.

You could always say you were just putting out fly paper for the bugs to keep down the pests? Are you not allowed to protect your plants in an ethical, and organic way with a little fly paper to catch and trap the critters? Once someone gets their hands in it, it's tacky and hard to get off. It's almost as bad as spray insulation.

Thank you for being the voice of reason, cooldude. While theft and vandalism is annoying, boobytrapping is very much illegal. I'm glad the poster re-thought it and edited.
You clearly missed the post that has now been removed. It was a horrendous description of illegal boobytrapping that the poster used against an ex. It appeared the ex was caught in the boobytrap. He clearly was not vindictive and did not report her, so she thought it worked and suggested it to others.

An outrageous, and extremely illegal, example of boobytrapping would be to set a shotgun to go off and shoot anyone who enters the door to your apartment. There have been cases of people actually doing this, and if it hurts or kills someone, the boobytrapper is prosecuted.
