flooding and traffic

We're having some pretty significant flooding in the area. Interstate 44, several miles to the south of me has been closed. Traffic is being diverted to Manchester Road, which is already congested, so they're predicting huge gridlock. Suddenly the quick post office and gas station shops I was going to do after my trip to the gym (all three right in the middle of the mess) won't be so quick. OY!

Where are you talking about? I don't know where Rt. 44 is.

Interstate 44 runs from St. Louis southwest to Texas. It is closed in southwest St. Louis County because the Meramec River is experiencing it's second "500 year flood" in 15 months.

Manchester Road that Kathy referred to is also State Highway 100 which is one of the few routes around the closed section. A big section of 100 is part of the old Route 66.

Route 44 runs from the edge of Cape Cod through RI and CT into NY.

At least she didn't call it The 44

LOL griff.

There is a Manchester Rd. about a mile away from my house and we have "the 44" nearby, too...but no flooding so I knew it wasn't here.
Or you could be in Atlanta, where the traffic is horrendous, had an arson fire close our main interstate and ever othery alternative route is under construction. No, I am not sorry about asking for extra bonuses as I am spending over an hour to go 12 miles, even at 6 AM on Saturday. Agh!!!
And now a second Interstate (55) is closed in the St. Louis metropolitan area, along with multiple arterial roads. A traffic guy reported that a much longer of the road I have to travel on is experiencing quadrupled drive times. Fortunately I know back ways to stay off of most of it. Foodluvr, if I knew this was coming I would have asked for bonuses, too!

Traffic by me was much worse this afternoon. One exit past me is the most direct road to connect to Hwy 100 going westbound while avoiding the business district closer to Kathy. It's also the same road with both my banks, the local grocery store, Trader Joe's and Total Wine. It's taking twice as long to get money and boozesmiling smiley

If the rain lets up you could walk to those stores and carry it home...or open that bottle of wine and drink it there :-)
