Occasionally, I dip into "The Summer Book" by Susan Branch. Today, I randomly opened this whimsical treat to the page that featured "The Summer Table". It begs for a real tea party (with grown-ups, children, and/or teddy bears). Just for me, I would like the linen napkins tied with ribbons, the admonishment to sprinkle summer salads liberally with petals: pansies, nasturtium, roses, & violets, and the drinks. "Freeze borage flowers in ice cubes for lemonade or tea". "Float petals of scented (rose) geranium, fruits, & berries in a glass of champagne".
On another page, there is a lesson from a 9-year old on how to go to tea party. Oh, my. Of course, we would not serve the tooty-fruity champagne to the children and teddy bears.
I am also reading "Rouging It" byt Mark Twain. This, too, is good-- in a different way.
