What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

A farmer near me created housing for a temporary worker using 2 40' shipping containers. He allowed me to tour it. He said once the containers were delivered, all he needed was a welder to weld them together and cut out windows and doors. The outside still looked like containers, but inside was nice. Corning Glass provided the inside wall panels and installation for free.

Interesting. How did he swing the deal with Corning?

As for cutting doors and windows out, everything I have read says when you cut out you have to do a lot of reinforcing to mainyain the structural integrity. My plan is a glass wall at each end, living room on one end, brdroom on the other, with oepn kitchen and full bath in the middle.

Happy anniversary! I hope you have something wonderful planned.

Thank you! We're having friends over today, and having fun. Tomorrow, we're going to our favorite Italian restaurant. Maybe see a movie.
Congratulations Mert! That is amazing. Have a wonderful day. You all must know how to have fun together or you would never have made it this long.
Don't they have to be insulated?

It was back in 2007, 2008 that the house was built, so it wasn't common back then. His intention was to start a business and sell the houses to govts to help alleviate homelessness and as shelter after disasters. So, this was a prototype home. I believe he asked Corning for materials and they agreed because they had a new wall panel product they wanted tested anyway. (Under this same scenario, I've been asking Elon Musk to test his solar shingles by installing them on my rood. No go.) Whatever reinforcements or tie-downs were needed would have been done. His point was that it it didn't require a team of construction workers.

Your floor plan sound nice!

The container? Yes. Definitely has to be insulated.

Another weird day lined up, a bunch of odds and ends. The weedeating I didn't get done yesterday, taking Lucy back to the vet for another treatment, a contractor coming to look at the water damage in the kitchen and bathroom and hopefully give us an estimate, grocery shopping. Man. If there's anything I hate it's a busy day NOT shopping. Can't wait to get back to my routes on the 5th so I can leave my spouse to deal with all of it.
Since I worked Saturday and Sunday, I slept in until 10 AM. Two reports to submit this AM. Then errands, to include: bank, Aldi , Costco, garden store, another bank, another (larger) grocery store. None of those are shops. This is just a day for me and to get my household ready for the rest of the month! Tomorrow, and for the next 7 days, I have shops every day. When Congress is in recess there is very little traffic in DC (except on the 4th) which makes it easy to do a ton of garages there. On the 4th, I will do suburban retail locations. (I hope to be able to resist the big sales.)

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.

I am going to do some more retail therapy today. I bought these great Vera Wang sheets the other day and I liked them so much I decided to buy two more sets! And I went grocery shopping yesterday late afternoon and the store was not busy, I had some coupons I printed out online and combined them with the sale so I got some good deals. I don't work until Wednesday. I could do some work today but I don't want to since I will be working every day for the next two weeks.
I love Aldi, and I dislike banks. They are too quiet. They remind me of funeral homes.

Now that is my kind of retail therapy. I much prefer buying stuff for the house that I will use and enjoy, over clothes.

I too love Aldi, but avoid going there at the beginning of the month because of the number of people in the store shopping with the EBT cards. It's much less crowded during the second week and thereafter.
I do all my banking online or drive thru. It's a necessary evil at times. I do like getting paid to go the bank for shops, though.
Enjoying my last day in Pacific Palisades, on the beach. Back to CO and shopping tomorrow.

Shopping up and down the Colorado Rocky Mountain front range.
Awesome. Now put down the phone and enjoy it! LOL

Coffee Queen, Kohl's is having a great sale that ends tomorrow. I got bath towels 3 for $10, the Vera sheets were normally $140 and I paid $79 for them (king), and I also bought two small Rosetti crossbody purses that were normally $42 for $15 each. They've got a ton of stuff throughout the store on sale...they are calling it their Epic sale and it really is. I looked at clothes but saw nothing I liked. I love crossbody purses because they are small and great for walking.
I love cross body purses. They are especially good when mystery shopping. I should checkout Kohl's.
Newbie, look online before you go to get an idea of things you might want to buy when you go. I mean, you could buy them online since they offer free shipping for over $75. Also, you can buy online and pick up in store. They have some sort of thing going on right now where you text a code to them and they text you back with a 15% off code for purchasing online. I did it and I am going to buy my sheets online and go pick them up in the store (3 miles away). They are not accepting any coupons in-store for this sale but they are giving $10 Kohl's cash for every $50 spent that you can redeem next week.
I had big plans for today, but woke up with a headache that wouldn't go away. (I'm blaming the rotten "middle-aged-hot-flash" night I had last night). I felt like I was swimming under water all day, but managed to prep all my shops for this week and make a batch of falafel waffles that will serve for some quick lunches and snacks while I'm on the road.

I wish I had a 10 spot for every time I had to get up in the middle of the night to take a shower. Sounds like you did okay anyway. I have never heard of falafel waffles but they sound very interesting.

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. But I can't help but pounce on falafel waffles. Please, please, tell us more about them.
I bought a new mattress and pillow protectors, and sheets for our Tempurpedic, and a new Epicurious chili pot. I have a crappy one that can't even go in the dishwasher. Slammin' deals. Thanks JAS! Now I'll go vacuum the entire upstairs and dust it and put some laundry away. I'd shop today but it's raining and I really dislike driving in the rain.
Tell me about the chili pot? I love chili, and though I generally only make it in the fall and winter, I was just thinking about making a batch for some reason. Glad you got to take advantage of the deals.

Today I am going to Bed Bath and Beyond to continue the spending spree, thanks to the generosity of my husband (it was actually his idea). I buy gift cards at a local grocery store that has gas stations, they offer 10 cents off per gallon for every $50 you spend, and I bought $600 worth of BB&B gift cards. I rarely ask him for money and I am a pretty frugal person, so this is a lot of fun for me. He got to fill up his tank in his pickup truck yesterday for $6 due to the buildup of fuel perks accumulated.

My husband is funny in the way he words things sometimes. Earlier this year he was looking at my 2004 Saturn (which only had about 76,000 miles on it) and was saying, "You should get a new car." I told him I didn't need a new car, and he said it again. I replied there was nothing wrong with the one that I had, it drives great and has low mileage for it's age. He told me again it was probably time for me to get a new car, and I came back with the fact that I really didn't want to spend the money on a new car and would continue to drive the Saturn for another couple of years. He finally changed his wording and sounded a little exasperated when he told me that he was offering to buy me a new car. I said, "Oh, okay." Why didn't he just say that to begin with?

Starting tomorrow I buckle down and work steadily for two weeks straight.
This is the chili pot. It's the bed bath and beyond one. I got a 5 qt instead of a 6 because there is only 2 of us. I use these pots for a lot of things besides chili. Edited to fix typos.

Your husband sounds like a nice guy. Maybe he noticed how frugal you are most of the time. I'm the same way. What kind of car are you thinking about getting?
