I love gardening but I've been too busy this year. I don't even have a single tomato plant. My flower beds are a hot mess. However, everything is blooming like crazy. The hydrangeas and the daylilies are outrageous. The plum tree is loaded. I've been begging all the neighbors to please take all they want. And the bind weed is plotting to take over.
After getting off to an outstanding start, my parsley and basil look awful. The parsley came back from last year and with the first warm days started to go to seed. Apparently, they cannot be brought be back. Basil has always been great for me. This is the second year in a row it grows slowly then the leaves begin to turn pale when they are large enough to use. I'm thinking it is the soil. I used something new last year and had enough left over for the pots this year. I was ready to just get all new plants, but most of the stores have little to nothing left even though the growing season usually extends to the end of September. It's aggravating because two and half months is a long time for fast growing herbs.

Herbs are doing spectacular. The veggies are worthless.

I'm having problems with my basil, too. The only consolation is that it didn't cost me anything; the plant was purchased on a shop.

If only I could say the same. I have close to 30 of them.

Basil is ridiculously easy to grow from seed. I usually just sow some seeds in a sunny spot on the porch.
The basil is doing better than anything else here. We have about 6 plants in the herb garden and another 15 or so in 2 huge pots. The oregano finally started growing well here too. Just wish the cilantro and sage would grow.

Great idea!

When I have fresh basil I always make pizzas. Little individual ones with hand tossed crusts, a good sauce, a little good cheese and the basil leaves left whole. Then drizzle with a little olive oil and bake.
I always buy plants to get a head start.

In addition to cutting off small amounts almost daily, during normal summers there is enough for a big harvest at least three times, sometimes four. That all gets made into pesto which freezes beautifully. I use ice cube containers and don't add the Parmesan until after thawing.

I'd be bummed, too.
