Attention people who are 62 and over or will be soon!!!!!

I want to make sure that everyone on this forum who is at least 62 or will be by August 27 is aware that the cost of the National Park's Senior Pass is going up from $10 to $80 on August 28. You can either get one at a National Park, Monument, or Historic Site that has rangers collecting admission or you can apply on-line. It costs an extra $10 if you do it on-line and you have to upload proof of eligibility. These are lifetime passes so even if you don't have any plans to visit a park in the near future, it would be worthwhile to go ahead and get one.

What's really annoying for my husband and I is that he turns 62 on September 14 and we were led to believe it would probably not happen until at least October 1. I just found out today what the actual date is. Why August 28 was picked is beyond my comprehension.

It is odd the change would begin before the start of the new fiscal year.

They probably had Labor Day in mind where it used to mark the end of summer and kids go back to school. They (the government) probably wanted to get some extra bucks in before the traditional Labor Day vacation ended. Just guessing.

I thought of that too. Doesn't make me any happier though. Of course my main point still stands. Everyone who is or will be eligible by the deadline should make sure they get one. I'm trying to let as many people know as possible. So spread the word if you know anyone who is eligible and doesn't have one yet.

I joke that I used to have a fake ID to make me older, now I have one that makes me younger!

Along the same lines, in my mid 20's I sent a birthday card to my high school best friend with the inscription
"We are now older than our fake ID's!"
Just a reminder if you are eligible. The deadline for getting your senior pass for $10.00 is only a week away. After that, it will be $80.00. Still worth it, but why spend extra if you don't have to.
